1.5GHz CPU + Quicksilver = success!20 Jun 2007 16:37 GMT2
As previously threatened, here's the result of my attempt to resurrect
a G4 Quicksilver into which I improperly attempted a CPU upgrade. I
believe the biggest problem was that I failed to set the DIP switches,
not realizing that this would be necessary. Today, after buying and

Handheld computer recommendations for Mac OS X20 Jun 2007 05:45 GMT5
Now that that my Palm LifeDrive no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4.9 and
Palm have withdrawn support for Mac OS X, can anyone recommend a palm
top which works well with a Mac.
Suffice to say, I'm not interested in any Palm products since my
Using rsync on 10.3.9 for backup?20 Jun 2007 04:38 GMT13
I have been thinking about using rsync for backup to an external
FireWire drive on a Mac G4. Has anyone had problems doing this when it
came time to restore things? I would be interested in people's
experiences doing this. This is for a workstation and I would like to
TV Tuner Question20 Jun 2007 03:41 GMT4

IMovie20 Jun 2007 01:25 GMT6
I downloaded a video using Firefox and wanted to switch the background music.
The original plays fine in Outlook (Flip 4 Mac added) and everything seems
fine.  Yet, when I import it to IMovie and want to change the background
music, well no problem  But, I get a Flip4Mac ...
Display puzzle19 Jun 2007 23:28 GMT8
I've just bought my first Mac (a Mini) and have been thoroughly enjoying
the OS X experience.  One thing that puzzles me, however: many of my
images (created on my old PC) are 800x600 in size (so that the images
would fill the screen when viewing) but when viewing with Preview, they
RECOMMENDATION NEEDED: buying an older Mac19 Jun 2007 21:58 GMT14
I am trying to replace a couple of older G3 Macs and wondering if people
have a recommendation in terms of best performance/options for about
$350 including monitor. I've seen a G4 eMac or G4/533 tower with LCD
monitor for about that price as well. G4 cube (450MHz) is slightly more.

to <system>.local such that if my workstation is named zeus and my
OSX Scripting ????s19 Jun 2007 18:21 GMT6
Couple of general questions...
1) I'm about to putz with Automator. Is Automator the equivalent of /

2) There were scripters that relied on Apple Events, and some that
Is there a shell program to gather info about MP3s or MPEGs?19 Jun 2007 16:25 GMT4
Is there anything like /usr/bin/sips that can be used on the command line
to extract info from MP3s or MPEGs such as song length, bit rate,
play count, movie resolution or frames per second or any such similar data?
It would be so great if Apple has done this.  Personally,
