I am a Mac newbie.  I've run PC for 20 years but got my hands on a Mac
PowerPC G4 400 MGHz Yikes (PCI Graphics) machine for free.  It came with
keyboard and mouse, but needed the rest (which I already had).  I

Friday evening, my computer slowed to a crawl.  Rebooting didn't help.  
Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, and TechTool Pro all fixed some problems,
but it didn't help.  I tried to reinstall OS X (archive and install),
but everything froze with two minutes left in the entire process.  ...
