Unable to delete some 'hidden' Mac file from Win2003 server11 Jun 2007 00:17 GMT5
We run a Win2003 server as a fileserver which is connected to by both
PC's and Macs. Unfortunately the Mac's leave a lot of
hidden ._filename files on the server. Often these files will be
completely locked so that I cannot even remove them when logged on as
what is a web archive?10 Jun 2007 22:42 GMT5
What exactly is a web archive?  Is this a proprietary file format which
will only work with Safari?  Or will this file open in other browsers
too?
Apple TV woes10 Jun 2007 22:24 GMT1
Just a bit of experience with Apple TV. It is a pain. After two hours
on the phone with Apple I still cannot get it to remain connected in a
wireless network to a MacPro. And to get it reconnected takes a ot of
patience. So far a regrettable decision to get one.
Mail Photo Question10 Jun 2007 22:09 GMT13
Hello; I'm a Mac newbie and could use a hand finding something on the
system to change it.
During the initial setup, the system took a photo of me that appears on
my mail. You don't want to know how bad this photo looks :-)))
Erased DVD-RWs won't mount10 Jun 2007 21:40 GMT2
For some reason my DVD-RW discs won't mount after being erased.
I've tried several DVDs, so the problem isn't with a particular,
damaged media. And they mount fine to begin with (I've used them a few
times before) as there's data on them.

on a Macbook Pro, the keyboard backlight doesn't work still.
Any clues?!
MosChip 7720 USB x 2-serial on 10.4.9 - ??10 Jun 2007 20:08 GMT2
Running a MacBook Pro with XP on Parallels, needed serial ports, so I
got this thing from TigerDirect that goes USB to two serial ports, and
it did install on XP (albeit with a little futzing] but while it comes
with Mac drivers too (and even something for Linux) and the installer
Question about secure empty trash/srm10 Jun 2007 17:47 GMT5
I know that the Finder (10.3 &10.4) secure empty trash command uses the
Unix srm command. However, I'm unclear about exactly what it's doing.
Quoting from the srm man page:
srm removes each specified file by overwriting, renaming, and truncat
HP LJ2300 won't print via USB (OS 9)10 Jun 2007 16:33 GMT4
I reinstalled the OS 9 drivers (the user uses this Mac primarily for a
Classic app, so boots into OS 9 only) downloaded from HP.com, but the printer
won't show up in Chooser. As instructed in the setup instructions that come
with the HP LJ Printer Utility, once the driver was ...
Is this viable?10 Jun 2007 05:50 GMT10
I recently got a Western Digital hard disk and have been making
backups of all four of the families OS X laptops.  I can't control the
the disk from my airport extreme, so I bought a new one.  Got home to
find it requires 10.4 if I want to control it.  Now, my G4 laptop is
Can OS X turn a flash drive with a "U3 system" into an ordinary drive?10 Jun 2007 05:14 GMT1
Apparently the U3 system on the drive my son bought is incompatible with
the arcade game he bought it for.  U3.com offers a Windows executable
(after asking what O.S. you have!) for removing the U3 driver.

Netscape 9 now available for OS X09 Jun 2007 18:27 GMT8
Netscape 9 has been released for Linux, Windows, and Macintosh. Its
bascially just Firefox with a Netscape re-branding, but I have a
sentimental attachment to Netscape. Reminds me of being on dial up back
in 1996! But seriously, the Netscape browser is nothing like the
OS/X Basics: Installing an application, where, and them oddball icons at the bottom...09 Jun 2007 09:46 GMT24
Help a pc & unix engineer to understand something----I'm not googling
correctly apparently because I end up with very basic instructions with no
clear understanding of what's going where.
In OS/X...
