ibook and 10.4 does not like each other03 May 2007 05:26 GMT15
I bought a 12" ibook G4 for my mom because that is the machine she
wants (she was particular about that). Now, the machine only has a cd
player and I want to put in it 10.4, which I only have as a DVD. No
problem, I thought as I have an external dvd burner which I have used,
OED incompatible with BootCamp02 May 2007 23:50 GMT12
I have just ascertained that the Oxford English Dictionary Second
Edition version 3.0 is incompatible with Apple's Boot Camp and that
OED's C-dilla system cannot recognize the original CD [and thus allow
access to the dictionary] in the partition established by Boot Camp.
PC Speech Recognition App's on a Mac, Pros and Cons02 May 2007 21:58 GMT36
Here is the unvarnished truth of what us Mac users can expect from PC
Speech Recognition app's now that we can run Windows XP Pro and Vista
Ultimate directly on our Macs, thanks to Parallels and BootCamp.
The raw uncorrected text is below, which was spoken in at 100wpm.
WebDEV File System Authentication?02 May 2007 21:41 GMT3
All of a sudden, I'm getting a WebDEV File System Authentication dialog
every few minutes asking me for my .Mac password. Since I no longer
have .Mac it's moot. But the dialog is a serious interruption. Is there
something I can delete, or what? Thanks.

I have an OS X Tiger iMac with an Epson Stylus CX5000 printer/scanner
attached.  I have configured OS X for printer sharing and have no
firewall running.  I'd like to have my linux laptop print to this
shared printer.  On my linux machine, I can see the shared printer but
preserve OSX permissions on PC-formatted USB stick02 May 2007 14:10 GMT4
I'm looking for a way to have my USB drive readable on both Win2k and
OSX, but preserve the OSX permission masks on the files. NTFS is,
unfortunately, unwritable by OSX 10.3.9 (which is what I'm using). I
haven't tried FAT32 yet, but if it's anything like the MS-DOS format

Move Win Outlook Express mail to Mac02 May 2007 06:32 GMT4
A friend of mine is thinking of moving from Windows to Mac; the biggest
barrier for her is the email messages and contacts currently in her
(Windows) Outlook Express installation.
Any hints on how she can take her email and contacts with her if she
NetInfo sleeping, can't configure network settings.02 May 2007 04:11 GMT4
I need to be able to configure my network settings (add new locations,
tweak ethernet settings, configure Paralell's NAT etc), but everytime
I launch the Network pref pane, it tells me "New Ports Dectected,"
asks me to configure them, and then press "Apply Now" to activate.
MacOS X on MacOS X virtualization02 May 2007 03:38 GMT1
Can anyone recommend a product that allows virtual installs of
pre-Tiger versions of MacOS X on PowerPC-based Tiger Macs?
Why do I need this? I'm tired of keeping old hardware lying around to
test my app releases on OSX 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3. The newer PowerPC
Keyboard cursor02 May 2007 01:31 GMT3
One feature of OS X that causes me pain is the keyboard. Aside from it's
compactness (My old hands seem much too big for this keyboard), I miss
the ability to have full control over the keyboard cursor. I cannot hold
down the spacebar nor the arrow keys and have the cursor race ...
