Sooner or later my beloved Microsoft Trackball Explorer is going to die. Now that its unbelievably expensive (over $100 usually) I'm wondering what other Mac users recommend for a Trackball. Logitech and Kensington are 2 popular options.

If one wanted wipe the hard drive before disposing of a dinosaur for which the system disks cannot be found, how might one go about booting the system so you could re-format the hard drive? Thanks for any suggestions.

I am trying to read lots of files from a DVD to my harddisk and get many files that can not copied. Some files are locked while others can not be read at all. Are there any tools or procedures that I can try?

My mum's ISP changed the dial-up number, so I created a new configuration in Internet Connect, but every time I select "Connect" from the menu bar, it selects the old configuration in Internet Connect. What am I doing wrong?

Is there any way of deleting messages? I can mark them read, but they are still displayed. I'd like to have 3 types: unread and visible, read and visible, read and invisible. That way I can save pertinent messages for later and am not distracted by irrelevant messages.
