Parallels repercussions28 Feb 2007 23:37 GMT37
"SWsoft's Beloussov says that this spring, Parallels will upgrade its
software further, in a way that by coincidence will make it easier to
run Mac OS on a non-Apple computer. He also insists that is not
deliberate, but just a consequence of the nature of the technology,
How to reinitialize a good HD with bad RAID slice?28 Feb 2007 18:25 GMT1
I've got a WD SATA 500GB HD with a bad RAID slice configured on it
(don't ask how I did it, I just did it ;-()   This is a known good HD,
I just messed it up (interrupted it) when OSX/Disk Utility was creating
the RAID structure.
iCal "Search" facility appears broken past February 200928 Feb 2007 18:16 GMT2
I'm running 10.3.9 (iCal 1.5.5) and I've found that the searchbox
refuses to show items occurring after 28th Feb 2009. I'm using the
Europe/London timezone, in case that's relevant.
It's easy to reproduce; just set up an item (called, say, "Xyzzy")
windows inactivating and jumping around28 Feb 2007 18:07 GMT2
Hi.  I bought a Mini last month.  My first question is how to call
Apple, since I'm apparently still entitled to complimentary telephone
support.  The number, though, seems to be secret.  It's not on the
warranty.  Is there somewhere I should look?
eMac hard drive replacement28 Feb 2007 16:10 GMT3
This is reposted after no response in  c.s.m.hardware, which seems to be
a nearly dead group now.
My USB 2.0 1.25GHz eMac is currently in the shop waiting for a new logic
board to arrive.  While it's there, I figured it would be nice to have
Vista on Mac?28 Feb 2007 13:52 GMT23
I'm getting a new iMac - can I run Vista on it?
opening small hole in firewall28 Feb 2007 12:54 GMT2
I'd like to turn on SSH on my Mac so I can access it from work.  To keep
things as secure as possible I'd like to only permit access from one IP
address (my work computer) and block SSH access from all others.
This doesn't seem possible with the GUI firewall tools.  Is it possible ...
ipod mini with folder/exclamation point icon28 Feb 2007 10:07 GMT4
My wife's iPod mini (three years old) just started acting up today.
When she went to turn it on the ipod displayed a folder and
exclamation point icon.  I read that this can mean several things.
First, I tried to plug it into my Mac and do a restore off of iTunes.

Any way to control balance based on a specific application?28 Feb 2007 07:25 GMT1
I use Skype a lot, but having to go into System Preferences each time
to shift the balance to the right on my MacBook Pro is getting
annoying.  Is there any automatic way to control this, such as when the
mic is in use, the left speaker shuts off?
Anti-virus for Mac28 Feb 2007 05:16 GMT16
Is there a free anti-virus program for the Mac?  I'm using Avast on my
PC and it's great.  Anything like it?
Also, I use Spybot and Adaware on my PC.  Is there any free programs
like those for the Mac?
Mac OS X Server delete28 Feb 2007 03:47 GMT4
I've got a second hand G4 from a business sale that has the server on
it.
Unfortunately I have no username or password and can't get in.
I do have OSX install discs but it tells me I can't overwrite the old

Can anyone recommend a reliable external HD with two Firewire 800 ports?28 Feb 2007 02:31 GMT8
I need to buy a second external HD. I have a 200GB LaCie 2d Extreme
with two 800 Firewire ports, am happy with it, now, but within the
warranty I had to have LaCie repair it. Reviews of the LaCie model I'm
interested in are average: half love it, half hate it. I'm not enough
