I like to customize KB shortcuts for certain applications using System Preferences-> KB and Mouse-> KB Shortcuts. For example, it is convenient in Mail to use opt-cmd-X to delete Junk Mail instead of the default opt-cmd-J since on my powerbook it's less of a stretch of the ...

| iBook G3- dead? | 27 Jan 2007 22:24 GMT | 3 |
G3 White iBook @ 900 MHz is very sick, if not already past the bar. It will occasionally start to boot up, but hit a kernel panic while doing so, with horizontal lines through the display, which is very unsolid in apprearance on top of that (blinking, sputtering if you will).

Two 350-MHz slot-loaders, identical motherboards, identical hard drives. One has 128 Meg RAM more than the other. Both have identical, up-to-date installations of 10.3.9 (I use RsyncX to keep them in synch)

| Purpose of Help Cursor | 27 Jan 2007 21:36 GMT | 9 |
On Apple keyboards, there's a "help" button below F14. On some applications, it just brings up the help viewer, but on others it changes the mouse into a question mark. This is presumably so you can click on whatever part of the window you need help with, but it doesn't

Every now and then, I have to look at some old file. Today, I want to look at a sketch I made of where certain kinds of trees were planted. Unfortunately, the sketch was made in MacDraw II. What is the best way to read such a file? GraphicConverter is not up to translating it.

| Why no Java applets in (Java-enabled) Safari??? | 27 Jan 2007 13:06 GMT | 8 |
I'm at wits end here. Applets work fine in Firefox, but not in Safari. "Enable Java" is checked in my Safari's Preferences > Security, and there's a "Java Applet.plugin" in Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
