Custom Application Keyboard Shortcuts27 Jan 2007 23:34 GMT3
I like to customize KB shortcuts for certain applications using System
Preferences-> KB and Mouse-> KB Shortcuts. For example, it is convenient
in Mail to use opt-cmd-X to delete Junk Mail instead of the default
opt-cmd-J since on my powerbook it's less of a stretch of the ...
Blue & White Powermac System disc27 Jan 2007 22:40 GMT2
I'm looking for either an original System disc for a Blue & White G3
Powermac or a fully bootable copy of OS 8.5.1 for a machine that i
have
inherited. I can't install any other OS on the box until I have done a
iBook G3- dead?27 Jan 2007 22:24 GMT3
G3 White iBook @ 900 MHz is very sick, if not already past the bar. It
will occasionally start to boot up, but hit a kernel panic while doing
so, with horizontal lines through the display, which is very unsolid in
apprearance on top of that (blinking, sputtering if you will).

Get used to me Chumps.  I'm going to be here for a long while.  You are a
highly amusing and entertaining group of macfish.
I love it here.
PS: notice how effective the KF is?
Inconsistent icons in Dock27 Jan 2007 21:43 GMT1
Two 350-MHz slot-loaders, identical motherboards, identical hard drives.
One has 128 Meg RAM more than the other.
Both have identical, up-to-date installations of 10.3.9
(I use RsyncX to keep them in synch)
Purpose of Help Cursor27 Jan 2007 21:36 GMT9
On Apple keyboards, there's a "help" button below F14. On some
applications, it just brings up the help viewer, but on others it
changes the mouse into a question mark. This is presumably so you can
click on whatever part of the window you need help with, but it doesn't
Anyone ID this font?27 Jan 2007 19:40 GMT9
Does anyone know the name of this font?  I was assured by a work colleague
that it can be found in Font Book, but damned if I can find it:

Vista through parallels question27 Jan 2007 18:47 GMT1
Does anyone have experience using a VPN with Vista business edition in
Parallels? I'm not getting any connectivity, yet my VM of XP works
just fine. Is this an issue with the 'added security' that Vista
supposedly implements?
Adding Ram to a G-427 Jan 2007 18:40 GMT5
I want to add as much ram as possible to my G-4.
I have 3 Ram slots, one has a 256mb module in it.
If I add 2 more, do they have to be 256MB?
Do all 3 have to be the same size?
"None of the checked updates could be installed."27 Jan 2007 15:50 GMT3
"None of the checked updates could be installed.
"The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may
have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple".
This is the message I received after attempting to install iChat Update
How to convert MacDraw files?27 Jan 2007 15:31 GMT4
Every now and then, I have to look at some old file. Today, I want to look
at a sketch I made of where certain kinds of trees were planted.
Unfortunately, the sketch was made in MacDraw II. What is the best way to
read such a file? GraphicConverter is not up to translating it.

Why no Java applets in (Java-enabled) Safari???27 Jan 2007 13:06 GMT8
I'm at wits end here.  Applets work fine in Firefox, but not in
Safari.  "Enable Java" is checked in my Safari's Preferences >
Security, and there's a "Java Applet.plugin" in Library/Internet
Plug-Ins.
