Can't select most fonts07 Jan 2007 17:29 GMT11
For some reason, I am no longer able to select most of the fonts that
are installed on my system (I'm running 10.4.8 on an Intel iMac). I can
browse the fonts using Font Book without any problem, but if I try to
select a font in a program such as TextEdit, TextMate, etc., the font

I have three Macintosh computers, which are all connected by an Ethernet
network.  Two of the computers are power PC systems, one running OS-X
v10.4.8 (Tiger), and the second running OS-X v10.3.9 (Panther).  The
third system is a 68K Macintosh running system v7.5.5.  File sharing ...
Mac Driver for Canon ImageClass 8180 Color Laser Printer07 Jan 2007 02:07 GMT23
Is there anyway to use a Canon ImageClass 8180 color laser printer with
a Mac under OS X?
Canon does not offer such a driver and seems to emphasize Windows XP in
its documentation -- is this a Windows only printer?  If yes, are there
iBook does not recognize mouse07 Jan 2007 01:37 GMT1
I am using a laptop that has some kind of standard system on it by the
company.  It was served by an Xserve and had an account that
automatically synced with the building server.  I immediately became
frustrated because it would not run any of the software that i
Good book for first-time computer user?07 Jan 2007 01:20 GMT7
I need to teach someone who has never used a computer how to use one. I
have used computers all my life, so I don't know where to start. I
thought I'd get a book. If it were Windows, I'm sure I could find a
hundred books for a newbie. On a Mac, though, I'm not sure what exists
Sorting different files in separate folders06 Jan 2007 22:10 GMT2
I have lots of folders on my hard-drive which contains digital photos
in both .JPG and .CR2 (Canon RAW) formats. Since I have two separate
iPhoto libraries (one for RAW and one for JPG) it would help me
immensly if I could somehow have the computer sort the two different

iPhoto6 versus iPhoto406 Jan 2007 14:06 GMT3
OK, on the basis of a lot of great comments about it I've paid my money
and updated to iPhoto6. Looks very nice, though it is somewhat
disappointing that it isn't G3-capable.
But one surprise has been the size. I mean, wow. iPhoto4 was some 27Mb,
Old Mac game query - help me identify it please06 Jan 2007 08:02 GMT1
I played a game on the mac many years ago now which I thought was called
Pharoah or something similar.  In it you played a pharoah and the ultimate
goal was to build your own pyramid - you had 50 years or something to
complete the task using slaves.  You were also required to ...
How to read punchcards with a Mac???06 Jan 2007 05:51 GMT13
I have megatons of important data on punchcards. Unfortunately,
I don't know how to read this data with my Mac.
Is there some sort of punchcard drive for the Mac?
Why does OS X hide the mouse cursor on keypresses?06 Jan 2007 03:28 GMT35
I'm new to Macland, and am enjoying my powerbook very much
(as a Windows and Java programmer, and old Unix hand).
Here's my little question:
When I scroll in a Firefox or Safari window *using the arrow keys*,
iPod: Do NOT assume a hard disk problem06 Jan 2007 03:00 GMT3
I feel like a bit of a fool :)
I dropped my iPod photo 60G on the dock connector end, and it developed
bad sectors at the end of the hard disk. 100% reliably, I could write
the first 40 GB or so, and 100% reliably, I could not read/write the
noisy iMac fans06 Jan 2007 02:24 GMT2
I have this iMac G5. After only a short time after power on, the fans
get very noisy. I installed a widget to look at temperatures and fan
speeds. Here's what it looks like after it gets noisy.
