Wanted: Your list of *MUST HAVE* apps for X.3.931 Jan 2007 03:46 GMT38
Subject says most of it - I'm a new-to-X user coming from a fairly
"plush" existence on an ancient PowerMac 7500 running 9.1, and trying to

already hit some of the basics - Firefox 2.0.0.1, the X version of
Mac = Linux31 Jan 2007 02:08 GMT29
A friend just got a powerbook and I was taking a look at it.  Am I
missing something here or is this not just another Linux machine with a
cleaner interface?

is strange because the image definitely mounted as I could see by

Favorites30 Jan 2007 22:04 GMT2
I read a review of Vista which included the following statement: "As
on the Mac, you can now drag favorite folders into a list at the left
of open windows, so it's easy to get to them".
I'm new with Macs - What does this mean?

I have set up some virtual hosts in httpd.conf, I've also edited the

Kill a frozen fullscreen application30 Jan 2007 18:44 GMT7
How can I kill a fullscreen application that's not responding? The
command+option+escape menu doesn't pop up - it seems to me like the
fullscreen application keeps the focus.

carolinemccaw?30 Jan 2007 16:26 GMT2
I was wondering if anyone could diagnose this mysterious behaviour for
me. At least, I think it's mysterious. My computer's name is
"Naughty". When I enter a bash shell, the apparent name of my computer
changes to 'carolinemccaw'. Example below:

Could someone point me to an explanation of the iPhoto library
structure? My own iPhoto Library is horrendously complicated. The
following is a review of the first level of folders etc.:

Fortune-telling according to I Ching30 Jan 2007 15:30 GMT3
The I Ching or "Book of Changes" is an ancient Chinese philosophy book
and book of wisdom. The I Ching has been used for more than 5000 years
as an aid to making decisions, predicting the future, etc. So, if
nothing else, it is a long-standing and popular source of wisdom and
Combining smaller tiles into a longer image30 Jan 2007 15:21 GMT1
I have a cron job that picks a random sequence of .JPG files
for IMG tags on a web page.  Unfortunately, the widths vary
and the results are sometimes screwy.
Is there a shell-callable tool that can take a list of images,
Q: How do I use a TV as a monitor?30 Jan 2007 15:19 GMT2
I was given an old G3 iBook (dual USB, 500MHz). It's running 10.4.8 and
works great as a secondary, knock-around computer. This is my first
laptop.
I'd like to be able to use a tv as a monitor every now and then for no
