What's the point of using file vault. I know its for when somebody
might steal my macbook they would be unable to read the files. But why
not just put a password on the user account. would that not be easier

I have a couple of senior rellies that have bought a new Mac. which uses an
OS 10.4. They have a previous model Mac (PowerMac?) with OS 8.6. They are

I'm new to Mac OS and I'm trying to understand how Java is installed in
Mac OS.  I just purchased an iMac and I need to run a web applet that
