Canon S-500 network printing fails22 Dec 2006 12:47 GMT5
As the subject says I can't make my Canon S-500 print via my
home-network. That is, not from my Mac, while from the PC it works
flawlessly.
With the Mac (MacOS 10.4.8) I get a progress indication in the printer
"Printing" PDF -background is missing22 Dec 2006 11:06 GMT1
Why is it that the background of many web pages is missing when I
"print" a PDF file?
I can understand this feature when printing to paper as you don't want
to waste a lot of ink, but to a PDF file it's different. Is there an
equivalent of "wget"?22 Dec 2006 09:43 GMT8
I'm SSHed in to a Mac OS X server (10.4).  From the SSH terminal, I'd
like to download a file through HTTP.  How can this be done.  I cannot
find "wget" any where on the system.
Thanks, - Dave
Problem with scrolling on MacBook22 Dec 2006 08:56 GMT2
The blue scroll bars do not seem to work on my friend's MacBook. I can
scroll with 2 fingers, and by using the arrow keys or the triangles at
the bottom of the window, but I cannot grab the blue bar and scroll. It
will jump down and then get stuck there.
Freaking strange benchmarking....22 Dec 2006 08:32 GMT4
Ok, so some of you might remember my Photoshop "benchmarking" earlier
[1]. I pitted my Macbook Pro against my Power Mac in Photoshop CS2.
These were the specs:

MS Word shortcuts22 Dec 2006 05:13 GMT14
I used to have an URL for these but I lost it.  Anybody know where there
is a comprehensive list of keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Word 2004?
Also, is there a keyboard command for OS X for shutting down or
restarting a Mac?  (I'm not using an Apple keyboard.)
How do I swap the Caps Lock and Left Control key?22 Dec 2006 04:31 GMT1
I want to swap the Caps Lock and the left Control key (only) I want
the right Control key to remain as is. I'm running 10.4.8. I tried
doing this in the keyboard preferences pane, but that made both
Control keys into Caps Lock keys. I tried DoubleCommand, but it gave
Where'd my four gigs of hd space go?22 Dec 2006 02:10 GMT11
I've got a 12 gig partition on my iBook G4 where I have 10.4.8
installed [on that 12 gig partition].  When I get the Finder to tell me
how much data is in each file and folder at the root of that partition,
I'm getting just less than 8 gigs when I add it all up.  Unfortunately
[Slightly OT] Furry iBook cases, does someone remember them?21 Dec 2006 23:02 GMT3
I apologise in advance for being off-topic here, but I wanted to reach
the widest Mac audience, as I doubt that many will remember what I'm
talking about.
A couple of years ago, an Australian lady made furry cases for iBooks
Mac Pro and CinemaDisplay21 Dec 2006 22:04 GMT2
I've got a new Mac Pro running with a 6 year old 22" Cinema Display.
Periodically, upon restart, the computer appears to boot normally
(start chime) but the screen remains white and nothing ever starts up.
If I disconnect the monitor (and external drive) and reboot, then
Can't disable screensaver21 Dec 2006 21:08 GMT17
I have a Mac Mini with Intel processor running OS X 10.4.6 and
connected to a Dell 19" flat panel monitor. My problem is that I cannot
disable the Screen Saver. In the "Desktop and Screensaver" module of
the "System Preferences," I move the slider labeled "Start Screen

Mac G4 Glitch/Any Ideas??21 Dec 2006 20:29 GMT8
In the past few days my Mac (G4, OS 10.2.8, Processor 400 MH2) often
can't open some internet pages. I tried Firefox 1.5, 2.0, Safari, IE
and the results are the same.  Sometimes when I click on TRY AGAIN
several times it finds the page. Sometimes five minutes later I go back
external drives recognized by some machines and not by other21 Dec 2006 18:34 GMT5
I have a USB2 external drive I use for backing up via SuperDuper! All of a
sudden (I swear!) my laptop (MacBook Pro) does not see the drive. DiskUtility
just spins it's beachball. A MacBook sees them fine. An old G3 iMAC sees them
fine. The MBP sees other devices on the bus, ...
Safari question.21 Dec 2006 18:26 GMT5
While using Safari, I occasionally want to find occurrences of my search
term on the web page being viewed. To do this, I use CMD-F. The highlight
colour that is shown on the web page is a barely discernable grey. If I
click on the web page afterwards, the highlight colour switches ...
