OS 9 startup in OS X09 Dec 2006 06:01 GMT1
I have 2 iMacs, a G4 and a G5. The G5 does not have Classic installed but
there is an icon for it in my system preferences.
The G4 came with Classic installed but there is no icon for it in my system
preferences. It is available as one of my startup disks. Whenever I restart,
spotlight search escape?09 Dec 2006 05:22 GMT1
I was searching with Spotlight for a string in a large directory of
text files.  The string I wanted to search for had a backslash
character "\" in it.  But I got matches to files with my string even
without the backslash.  Perhaps I need some escape character to search
Printer connection09 Dec 2006 02:03 GMT4
I have an HP Photosmart 8450 printer.  One reason I got it is that it
has built-in ethernet, so my housemate and I could both access it
without either of us having to leave her computer on as a printer server.
Well, I no longer have a housemate, and have only one computer.  So my
Eliminating the Message bar in Mail?09 Dec 2006 01:59 GMT3
It would be nice to be able to have a keyboard shortcut that would allow
one to instantly see all the message titles on a page without the
Message Body on the bottom, for those times when you want to check
something among many messages.  Dragging the bar that separates the

About a week ago iTunes stopped working.
It starts to launch and then just quits
while the dock icon is still bouncing.
I deleted all traces of the old iTunes

Cannot shutdown MacPro follow-up08 Dec 2006 20:45 GMT9
Earlier I posted a query on ways to help me overcome the inability of a
Intel MacPro to shutdown, restart or logout from the Apple menu. It
still will not after extensive questioning from as many forums as I
can. Even in safe boot mode, I either put it to sleep or force a
Net printing to a LW16/600/PS with Windows?08 Dec 2006 20:18 GMT4
I need to print to a Laserwriter 16/600PS that is
connected to my LAN.  I don't know how to
figure out what the IP address of the printer is
or how to add the driver to Windows 2000 Pro.
Legacy HP 4m Printer08 Dec 2006 18:33 GMT7
My Select 360 finally gave up the ghost after 11 years. haha. I
replaced it with another laser printer. For me its an upgrade, HP 4M

Installing Appleworks 6 on an Intel-based Mac08 Dec 2006 17:51 GMT1
I've licenced Appleworks 6, ostensibly to allow us to open documents from
my daughter's teachers.
I'll be giving my family an iMac 20" for Christmas, and would like to move
Appleworks from my Powerbook to their iMac.
None of your trusted wireless networks..."08 Dec 2006 17:22 GMT4
"...can be found. Would you like to join the network XXX?" So says an
alert message when my MB Pro awakens.
But XXX *is* my network -- one of my three wireless stations, a master
and two relays. Looking at the AirPort tab in Sys Prefs > Network, it

How to format HFS+ with larger block sizes08 Dec 2006 07:25 GMT8
I know that default block size for HFS+ is 4KBytes. How can i format an
HFS+ volume with blocksize larger than 4KBytes. There is a utility
called Gformat, that allows you to do this. But the problem is that
Gformat does not works on my intel based mac mini.
Legacy Apps on Intel Mac08 Dec 2006 02:00 GMT9
Is there any way for me to run legacy apps on my MacBook Pro?  More
specifically, I'd like to be able to play "Castles: Siege and Conquest"
again, and I've tried my hand at the Mac emulators (Basillisk, SoftMac,
PearPC) and haven't had much luck.  I really don't want to go buy an
