I was searching with Spotlight for a string in a large directory of text files. The string I wanted to search for had a backslash character "\" in it. But I got matches to files with my string even without the backslash. Perhaps I need some escape character to search

| Printer connection | 09 Dec 2006 02:03 GMT | 4 |
I have an HP Photosmart 8450 printer. One reason I got it is that it has built-in ethernet, so my housemate and I could both access it without either of us having to leave her computer on as a printer server. Well, I no longer have a housemate, and have only one computer. So my

| Eliminating the Message bar in Mail? | 09 Dec 2006 01:59 GMT | 3 |
It would be nice to be able to have a keyboard shortcut that would allow one to instantly see all the message titles on a page without the Message Body on the bottom, for those times when you want to check something among many messages. Dragging the bar that separates the

| Cannot shutdown MacPro follow-up | 08 Dec 2006 20:45 GMT | 9 |
Earlier I posted a query on ways to help me overcome the inability of a Intel MacPro to shutdown, restart or logout from the Apple menu. It still will not after extensive questioning from as many forums as I can. Even in safe boot mode, I either put it to sleep or force a

I've licenced Appleworks 6, ostensibly to allow us to open documents from my daughter's teachers. I'll be giving my family an iMac 20" for Christmas, and would like to move Appleworks from my Powerbook to their iMac.

| Legacy Apps on Intel Mac | 08 Dec 2006 02:00 GMT | 9 |
Is there any way for me to run legacy apps on my MacBook Pro? More specifically, I'd like to be able to play "Castles: Siege and Conquest" again, and I've tried my hand at the Mac emulators (Basillisk, SoftMac, PearPC) and haven't had much luck. I really don't want to go buy an
