Questions about the mac system16 Dec 2006 02:39 GMT17
We are thinking about purchasing a mac.  We have some questions that we
need real answers to , rather than Apple sales answers.
1) Is a Mac really secure from viruses?  How about worms or trojans?
If a Mac is secure then how come there is a Norton Antivirus package
Weird mouse problem16 Dec 2006 00:33 GMT13
The speed in which the mouse pointer tracks the mouse seems to be
non-linearal, almost as if it were accelerating.  At slow speeds the
mouse is way too slow, sometimes not moving at all, but at faster
speeds, it overshoots.

Yesterday, there was a change on the news server apparently. Usually rr

this one. This group is showing 6222 articles going back to last march

Force Spotlight NOT to search INSIDE files?15 Dec 2006 21:14 GMT6
Hey all,
Does anyone know if there is any way to manipulate Spotlight's search
so that it doesn't search inside files but only in the file title and
in the file's Spotlight comments? A strange request, I know, but I have
Repeated ping in Terminal15 Dec 2006 17:34 GMT13
What is the MacOSX Terminal equivalent for the Windows command-line:

I.e. keep pinging the IP address repeatedly.
I use this quite a lot to see when other servers on my network have finished

Copying date order of filenames in folder15 Dec 2006 04:12 GMT5
I want to make a list of files which I have in a folder, sorted by
creation date. I sort them in the Finder using the "Date Created" view,
copy the list, then paste it into a text processor (I've tried both
BBEdit and Word); but the resulting pasted list is sorted in reverse
Laptops: Unfamiliar with Apple, need help.15 Dec 2006 04:08 GMT26
I posted this on a non-computer forum.  The recommendations for apple
intrigued me.
I'm reposting it with the intent of probably switching entirely to Mac.
Now I'm new
Connect external numeric keypad to MacBook Pro15 Dec 2006 03:46 GMT3
I just got an external USB numeric keypad for my MacBook Pro. When I
plug it in, the keyboard wizard starts up and asks me to press the key
to the right of the left shift key, which I obviously cannot do on a
pure numeric keypad. How can I make OS X recognize this keypad? I could
Still looking for a Way to Convert .3g2 to Ipod mp4 Format15 Dec 2006 03:42 GMT2
Someone had suggested a program by avs or something like that but it was
windows only and I'm running mac os x here.  I did try iSquint but it

it'll do it for sure.

Is it safe to add a font to the system folder in 10.4.8?
I just tried to add Futura, but it wouldn't go in, because the Fonts
folder is locked.
I then used Terminal to try to unlock the Fonts folder (following the
