I'd like to send to a friend a file containing various data, altogether
the size is of it is ~1.5 G. How easy would it be to send it via e-mail,
keeping in mind that my friend is on dial-up connection? How long would
it take for the file to download? Should I give up on that idea ...

I haven't taken careful notes, but on at least three of my Macs running
10.4.7, I note anecdotally that free space seems to grow both smaller
and faster than with OS X ~10.3.
I'm attributing this to swap files, but that's just a guess.

it looks at first glance as though hardly any software works without

I purchased a D-Link DSM-G600 (rev 1a) Network Storage Enclosure and I
am having problems getting it to work with my Apple iMac with Mac OS X

At work, I connect to a Windows share folder and edit files there using

Marantz receiver and it's biting the dust.  Bought a new Harmon Kardon one
