Rash of hard drive failures, am I missing something?10 Sep 2006 22:36 GMT14
I've had a rash of hard drive failures recently, 3 in 3 weeks, with no
obvious connection between them. I'm wondering if I'm missing something
and they are related.
Also is there a utility which will see a drive the system doesn't? Like

nicknames in address book10 Sep 2006 04:40 GMT20
Until this year I used Netscape for email.  I could type a nickname into
the address field of an email and it would fill in the person's real
name and email address.
That was useful for two reasons.
iTunes won't recognize CD burner10 Sep 2006 03:58 GMT2
About a year ago I upgraded to a LaCie DVD±RW burner. Even though it
played well with Toast, iTunes had a problem with it.  There was some
kind of freeware bridge that I had to download so iTunes would see it.
Unfortunately, I had to re-install OSX so that was lost. Can anyone
A suggestion for iMacs10 Sep 2006 00:25 GMT6
Why doesn't Apple provided an auxiliary DVI >input< on the iMacs? If
it had one, with an input selector switch, I'd be much more tempted to
buy one and use it as a display for my Windows PC as well. Surely I'm
not alone.
No apparent Hard Disk after Inserting Modem CD09 Sep 2006 23:05 GMT3
Yes, that is what happened the other day on the iMac!
I walked in to install a new usb modem for my friend and I just
inserted the CD--apparently the OS had not completed loading and I did
not check nor did I know until later.

MT-NewsWatcher 3.5.2 can't display monochrome jpegs09 Sep 2006 19:56 GMT1
I'm a long-time MT-NewsWatcher user. Since I upgraded to 3.5.2 every
black-and-white .jpeg file displays as blank on my screen.
Monochrome pictures scanned in color mode display just fine, as do
colored pictures, of course.
