I'm routinely observing double entries (two successive identical
entries) for some or all of the apps in the "Open With" drop down menu
in Get Info windows, and also in Finder contextual menus and in the
Apple Menu >> Recent Items submenu.

I found new firmware for my dvd writer that is installed in my mac.
I want to upgrade the firmware but the application is for the PC.
What do you usually do?

...need to transfer from my old mac powerbook to my new one... the old
G4 powerbook is okay but only has firewire 400 - my newer mac has a
dead 400 port... any way I can connect from 6-pin to 9-pin? doesn't
seem to read it?

I have an old version of XP (never been used), and I want to put it on
my power mac.  Is it possible to download the latest version of windows
XP and just type in my legal license from the old box !?!?

I've just had to erase the hard drive on a G4 iMac LCD (flexible neck)
and reinstall Mac OS X 10.4. I've installed the "Classic Support" and
copied a Mac OS 9.2 System Folder from another Mac of the same model
where Classic does work.

I have a 20-inch Intel iMac with a superdrive. I have burned a number
of DL DVD's with no problem. Now, for no apparent reason, it will not
do this.  Using a burn folder, I get the following message after the
computer is "preparing the data": Sorry, the operating could not be

I was just sitting at my Mac (PM G5/dual 2.0), when I noticed the lots
of disk churning going on, as well as high CPU usage (I have Unsanity's
CeePU going). I opened up the Activity Monitor to see what is going on,
and I noticed a couple of processes running that I hadn't seen ...

I graduated in May this year with a bachelor's degree in Computer
Science & Math double major. I then applied to the Mall of America Apple
Store for a Genius job. I got an interview but was turned down. I think
it was from no work experience with computers only generic retail

Thanks for the responses so far. Just to put everyone's mind at rest, I
did purchase the family pack  thru my wife's educational discount to
cover the Macs in our house and my bro-in-laws. I didn't think it was
necessary to be that specific but apparently I was wrong.

Occasionally, my mouse cursor will disappear when I'm in Safari. This usually
happens when Safari is loading Java or other interactive content. Does this
happen to anyone else?

I'm a lowly work study in a college computer lab. my coworker and i are
having to go to each individual computer and put the right applications
on the dock. I was wondering, is there a way to just copy the file that
describes the dock on the OS X desktop? we have 8 users on each

looking for information on how I can become a reseller or how I can

First, thank you for reading this.  I am trying to install OSX Tiger on
a G4.  When I try to set the startup disk to the install DVD I get the
