My IGhz 1GiG 15" TiBook with a Superdrive is running Tiger and will read
CDs but will not burn in the Finder or in iTunes or in Toast. I get a
message about not reading the laser level - or something like that.
(Tiger was installed cleanly after erasing the hard drive.)

I am very new to mac, and wanted to get this old thing running just
about any OS / system I could. I read up and decided to try system
7.5.3.
When I turn on the machine, with no floppy inserted, i get a diskette

I only used it to test websites occasionally, so it did npt have many
hours on it. After an Apple software update, I had to force quit
Safari several times and then it would not boot, only displaying a
blinking folder icon. I tried the tools DVD and it saw no hard drive,

Using Safari, I cannot gain entrance to a web site with my
admin-approved username and password, but I have no trouble with the
same username/password combination when I use Internet Explorer. I
prefer to stick with Safari, and have never before had serious problems

I spent a great deal of time today, attempting to figure out how to get
.Mac, Address Book and sync to start working again.
When I installed the 10.4.7 update on my PowerBook G4, the contents of my

I bought an ibook on  ebay (1.25 ghz, 1.33 mhz, 60 gig HD, superdrive).
The darling works fine and I linked my e-mac to it via firewire and
transferred all data so it mirrors it exactly in terms of apps, setting

I have just put a new drive into a G3 and want to install 10.4 on it.
However the 10.4 is on DVD and the G3 has a CD drive... :(
I have other macs here... Can I boot from one of them by firewire?
p.s. the only firewire cable I have is from my iSight.

First I should say that on several occasions in the recent past, I've
experienced Mail failing properly to open after a restart. But always,
until tonight, I've been able to Force Quit Mail, and then my second
attempt to open Mail would be successful.

Is the magazine gone?  It's been getting thinner of late but I guess the
publishing industry is too competitive with the Web.
Nothing in the mail or on shelves of my local bookstore.

How do I set an autoreply for when I am out of town?

I just ran an Applescript "Info for" on a plain text file, which returned this
piece of metadata:
type identifier:"com.apple.traditional-mac-plain-text"
which is playing a little bit of havoc with icon and default application for OS

I got this mini second hand. The desktop that shows at start up does not
show my icons, only the icons of the previous user.
How can I change this?
