Had to reinstall OS/X.... Now, as near as I can tell,
/Library/StartUpItems isn't working.
For example, I have a directory ipfw. In it, I have the ipfw binary,
and a StartUpParamaters.plist. In it:

I am a new Mac user and I just tried to make my first DVD with Toast,
and I got it figured out to burn it to disc.  But what if I just want
an .iso or a DVD Folder instead and burn it later?

I've installed XP with Parallels, but can't afford to buy Parallels at
the moment so figured I'd use Boot Camp for the time being. The problem
is I don't have a SP2 copy of XP, only SP1 which was duly updated during
the installation process.

I have been using a UNIX machine (Sun Ultra 10) for a long time and got
used to the 3-button mouse, which is especially useful in the editor
EMACS.

After having worked/programmed with Windows for a decade I recently bought
my first Mac.
Can you recommend books/links that target directly ex-Windows users? I'm
software engineer and I'm therefore looking for rather in depth material

On my old dell (winXP) when I'd go to shutdown, I'd simply pick
shutdown from the start menu, close the lid of my laptop, and pack it
up - the PC would continue shutting down while the lid was closed.

I am a Phd student in computational  chemistry at Durham University, so
i need Linux ( corrently i am using Fedora Core 4 ) for my Phd.
So in one months time I want to buy a laptop, but i don't know what

I've recently moved to an Intel Mac Mini (Duo), running OS 10.4.7 from
an elderly dual processor G4 running 10.2.8. I'm not sure I've done the
right thing, because the new machine is MUCH slower than the G4.
Is this just my box, or true for all the Intel Macs?
