backup entire diskdrive23 Jul 2006 03:06 GMT4
I have an iMac G3.  I would like to backup the entire harddrive. I have
an external firewire drive.
I seem to remember in the classic days you could boot from cd and the
copy things.  Can you boot from cd in MacOS X and get into the GUI?
Dual DVD drives?23 Jul 2006 00:29 GMT1
I was wondering since G4 has two 5.25" faceplates would it be possible
to get a different drive cage for inside my PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics)
so I can put a non-Apple DVD burner as the second drive internally?  Is
it possible to "hack" it in there?  Perhaps someone else thought of

mp3 DVD burned from iTunes not legible on other macs?22 Jul 2006 15:54 GMT1
Subject line says it all.
I burned an mp3 DVD+R from iTunes to send to a friend and he said his
powerbook (a G4 model) could not read the disc.
Puzzled, I burned another one and took it to another mac (a G4
encryption22 Jul 2006 15:32 GMT2
This question is asked purely out of curiousity and has no practical
importance to me...
I note that when creating a disk image you are offered the option of
AES-128 encryption (which I assume is a 128 bit encryption scheme).
Here's an oddball question for you all.22 Jul 2006 14:51 GMT27
I was given a set of disks containing OS X 10.4 (They're quite legit!
Got the Apple logo on them and everything.)
However, they are for the EMAC and supposedly won't install on my B&W
PowerMac.
monitor vs. screen displays22 Jul 2006 13:56 GMT4
I used a Mac mini to present a slide show for our local photo club.
This was without monitor - but directly cabling the mini into projector
for screen display.
I was wondering if there is an improvement in the screen presentation
for those who want to boot WinXP on Intel Macs22 Jul 2006 12:29 GMT80

This is not a joke. If it's a hoax, it's one perpetuated by Apple.

Mac OS X - Switch Application's Windows with Keyboard?22 Jul 2006 11:44 GMT2
Is there a way to switch an application's windows with the keyboard?  I
find moving the windows around with mouse tedious...

MAC vs. PC22 Jul 2006 07:25 GMT17
I'm studying animationfilm and computers are a big part of the time and
work you put into animation.
At school it's all mac G4's but at home it's an old iMac DV+ 450Mhz.
I'm at the point of buying a new system but can't make up my mind
Powermac g4 350 maximum memery?22 Jul 2006 06:39 GMT1
I have a secondhand Powermac g4 350.. I have a 512 mb stick, a 128,
and a 64. Granted it runs fine on 512, but the 170 would be helpful.
It only recognizes the 512 - even with the 128 and 64 and 512, it says
512 megs free.
Older Mac DVI to analog22 Jul 2006 02:48 GMT5
The DVI lookalike on older Macs (a G4 from 99) is a bit different from
normal modern ones. Is it possible to use a modern PC adaptor, or need
it be an Apple thingy?
The visible difference is that the female connector on the card lacks
Question about Parallels22 Jul 2006 01:11 GMT2
I read David Pogue's recent post in the NYT regarding his experience
with Naturally Speaking 9.0  which dealt only with the Windows
environment.  He mentions dictating directly into M$ Word.  My question
is, with Parallels, could one dictate directly into the M$ Word OSX from
