Booting an Ubuntu 6.06 LTS CD as a Live CD, and changing some system settings, resulted in a freeze. I wanted to check it out before installing to my G4 AGP graphics system. Subsequent restarts fail to get me back to the desktop. As a result, OS 9.2.2

I have just purchased a new 20" iMac. I am a first time Mac user so i have a lot to learn. My first issue is that i bought the machine in France (so everything comes preinstalled in French) but i am an English speaker so i want to change the OS and all the apps over to English.

I have my fully configured Mac OS X Server 10.4.7 on a G4/450 and would like to move it to a Mac mini G4 as configured. Is there anything that prevents doing this with CarbonCopyCloner (mounting my "new" Mac mini in target mode as a Firewire disk)?

I saw a thread about a year ago that did not recommend using tar or zip from a Terminal.app to backup user directories for off site storage. The reason was that tar or zip can not reconstruct the data or resource forks if and when a restore was done. The recommendation at that ...

I am looking for a good value device that will give Network Attached file storage on a peer to peer network, but both for Mac and Windows PC. E.g Netgear make a great looking NAS device, but the spec sheet says it is only supports Windows.

When I boot my G4 from a backup drive and run Disk Utility on the primary drive I get an error. When I select the primary drive and click on Repair, the Disk Utility comes back with Repairing disk failed with error Could not unmount disk

Can I open one of the "receipt" files on my OS 10.3.9 system with a standard Mac text editor (TextEdit, BBEdit, Nisus Express), just to take a look at it out of curiousity, without causing any damage (assuming I make no changes)?

I can see the Windows XP Home Photosmart 7350 printer over the network but it is not listed in the Printer Model list box. I tried installing the driver from HP but no luck. Please help... TIA,

Does anyone know the best way to connect an Iomega jaz drive (1GB) with a SCSI cable to an iMac G4 with usb and firewire connections? I had the jaz connected to my old G3 blue and white tower and now i need some files that are stored on it.

I set the hostname in the Sharing icon of Preferences to "mac" and it added .local to the end. I can ping the IP but I can not ping "mac" or "mac.local". I also of course can't use the hostname for file shares or VNC either.

I've read some say that there are no viruses that can infect OS X, is that true? Is the reason to run anti-virus on the Mac is to just prevent spread of Windows viruses? Is there any resources on the net to back that up? That's a powerful claim. I know most Linux boxes do
