Emacs??30 Jul 2006 21:08 GMT8
Anyone know if there's a native version of emacs for OS X?
By native I mean one that doesn't need me to encumber my machine with
X11.
I'm looking for something that I can use to build some web pages from
Canon Rebel invisible in OS X30 Jul 2006 19:21 GMT4
Using the latest drivers from Canon's website.  But it still says "no
camera found".  And I don't have a card reader right now.  Has anyone
else had this problem?
Filemaker Plus help30 Jul 2006 18:31 GMT1
I have an OLD database which was created in Filemaker Plus, from which I
now need to retrieve data.  Problem is, the floppy I stored the app on
has become corrupted, and I have not been able to restore the program in
order to export the data.  Unfortunately, Filemaker Pro won't ...

The other day my mac froze. Aside from being impressed that I actually
managed for finally freeze my mac after years of having it, I powered
it down to reboot. It started....slowly....slowly, then reached the
blue screen where i was expecting my desktop to start showing up, but
How do I clean a hard drive30 Jul 2006 17:29 GMT5
I'm totally new to Apple, so I don't know nuttin'.  I bought a used Mac
(I'm not even sure what it is) that was preloaded (I don't have the
disk) with OS X Tiger. I want to delete everything on the hard drive
except the OS. How do I do that without hurting the OS?
Missing fonts (Krone & Krone Bold)30 Jul 2006 16:43 GMT21
I recently switched to Tiger (OS 10.4) from Panther, and lost a couple
of fonts. I was able to copy New Century Schoolbook over from an
archive file, but Font Book warned me not to install Krone and Krone
Bold. Krone is an especially hard loss because I have a continuing
Demoting Quicktime30 Jul 2006 16:28 GMT3
I recently downloaded VLC media player http://www.videolan.org/
because the Quicktime Player wasn't doing a good job at playing .avi
files - there was always a 'choppiness' as if frames were missing - I
assumed this was aimed at making you upgrade to Quicktime Pro...

Internet Speed30 Jul 2006 08:43 GMT9
I'm new to the world of Apple, having used (and continue to use) multiple
windows machines in my household.
I just purchased a MacBook, and I like what I see thus far....with one major
exception and a few minor ones.
Mac Mini PPC will not sleep30 Jul 2006 08:31 GMT3
1stly, I am a switcher. I love my MAC, it is so refreshing coming home
and using my MAC after a day in my Windows centric job as a Sys
Engineer.
But I have a problem with my MAC now not sleeping by its self. I can
Mac Intel GUID format?30 Jul 2006 03:35 GMT3
I am going to switch to an Intel Mac shortly and have a question about
the GUID format needed to boot from an external drive. I have an
emergency repair partition on a firewire drive. To make that a bootable
partition, can I just erase the partition or do I need to reformat the
Epson C80 Print problems30 Jul 2006 01:33 GMT2
Could use recommendations on C80 printing problem.
My wife just replaced all print cartridges on her 4 year old C80.
She hadn't used it for color printing in some time because of some
"banding" problem. So when black was gone the others showed empty as

Hello, all!

instead of sending a document to a printer.
In Mac OS X, it is now possible to print to a .pdf (Adobe portable
RANT about Intel Mac's new "Partition Table" - - - Do Not Read29 Jul 2006 20:03 GMT47
Beware, this is a rant from a bitter old man.
Do not read this under any circumstances, it is depressing.
Why should we Mac users care a rat's behind about GUID?
Because it is part of the new Intel Macs, which we will be stuck with
