video.google.com - Mini fan goes wild11 Jul 2006 18:53 GMT5
Using OS X 10.4.7 with 1.25 Mini with 1024 mb ram.  Is this normal?  The fan
is going as fast as its little legs can take it. The whine is gruesome.  I'd
love to replace this garbage fan/heatsink with something that can dissipate
some real heat.  If you throw away that goofy hard ...

Why should I buy an Apple and what teething difficulties can I expect11 Jul 2006 13:42 GMT24
This is a sincere post, I promise.
We're a PC family and are considering buying an Apple when we upgrade
our laptop. So I thought I'd post to this group for genuine reasons as
to why are Apples are better than PCs. I'd also love to hear reasons
Kill File Google groups? Anyone actually want help uses them?11 Jul 2006 10:49 GMT4
Here is the deal. Mac OS X doesn't come with a news reader. ISP's like

lots of people who doesn'T know the comp.sys.mac tree on usenet.
Google is popular. It purchased Deja and now they made this "google
Looking for a router (mac to pc)?11 Jul 2006 10:26 GMT3
Anyone know a good router that can split dsl internet access with a
windows xp pc?
I have never used a router before. And the whole thing seems so
confusing. Also will this compromise my internet speed? For example, if
mac to pc ip over firewire: weird quirk; suggestions?11 Jul 2006 04:36 GMT2
I set up Firewire networking between my Powerbook and my windows
desktop and, before you jump on me for not knowing what I am doing, it
works.  I have all the network services I need going and I have both
computers accessing the same firewire hard disk directly (though it had

I'd like to set up some type of timing system for the individual
players on my soccer team to measure themselves when they are doing
sprints (5 - 10 secs with tenth of second accuracy).
NFS mounts after sleep problem.10 Jul 2006 20:58 GMT2
I have been experiencing an intermittent problem with an NFS mount that
doesn't always work after waking a sleeping G4.  Most of the time the
mount works after a sleep but sometimes the system log shows the
following and never manages to remount.  A reboot fixes the problem:

Upgrade imac on OS 9.2 to OSX10 Jul 2006 17:42 GMT4
I have an imac which is currently running OS 9.2. I need to upgrade
this to OSX as 9.2 is obviously well out of date. What would be the
best way of going about this? I'm fairly sure that my mac doesn't have
the memory to cope with OSX, would I need to wipe everything off and
Chooser Opens, doesn't show??10 Jul 2006 17:25 GMT3
Hey all,
On one of the workstations in our graphics department, I am unable to
access the chooser. When I try to open the Chooser, it opens, but all
you see is a small box like the one you click to close the window. The
shrinking the size of .dv files10 Jul 2006 17:23 GMT7
A .dv movie file that I imported from my camcorder is 4.6GB for 20
minutes worth of movie. When I try to backup this file on an external
USB disk using rsync command, it balks that the file is too large (my
backup HD has more than enough room for it, so space is not an issue). I

Every idea and innovation has it's Use By Date.
Just as Morse Code, manual telrphone exchanges, vinyl records, black
and white TV, VHS VCR Players each were the "state of the art" in their
day, so has USENET come to its UBD.
Camera doesn't show up/slow camera transfers10 Jul 2006 15:51 GMT16
I've recently bought a digital camera and I believe a device icon
showed up on my desktop in the beginning, where I could actually access
its memory card contents straight from the desktop.
The icon no longer shows up there. I am however able to import my
