deleted app files12 Jul 2006 21:40 GMT6
My 10 year old son deleted some application  icons (real player, chess,
etc) from the application folder when  I was logged in as administrator
(while I stepped away for a few minutes).  Does this create any
problems? I just bought a nice MacBook and I don't want to see any

How well does Mac support older versions?12 Jul 2006 19:16 GMT3
I am curious... If I buy a Mac with the latest OS X, and I set it to
auto update, but say 2 years later a couple different new versions of
OS X came out and I *didn't* buy the upgrades, will they still send
security/bug fixes for the version I have or do I have to upgrade to
Target mode finding the wrong disk12 Jul 2006 17:39 GMT4
I'm trying to use Migration Assistant on a new (well refurbished) G5
PowerMac with my old Digital Audio PowerMac booted in Target mode.
The old Digital Audio has two disks.  Each disk has a single partition.
One disk has a Volume named "Media".  Media does not have on OS on it,

user cron job doesn't run12 Jul 2006 15:12 GMT1
I tried setting up a cron job for doing a nightly backup over the network,
and as far as I can tell, it just didn't run. crontab -l does show that
the job has been installed (no "you are not authorized" message). In other
Unix systems, I'm used to getting E-mail (via /var/mail) from ...
Crazy iMac G4 stopped running in OS 912 Jul 2006 09:59 GMT11
I'm having the strangest problem getting OS 9 to boot on one of the last
iMacs to support it. Specifically, I moved an HDD from a 400mhz Cube to
an 800mhz iMac G4. OS X works without a hitch (both OSs are on the same
partition,) but OS 9 doesn't start up properly.

I had 10 GB free on my Powerbook.
I attached an external drive and ran Carbon Copy Cloner to do a backup.
About 2 hours later, I come back and find the system freaking out
because the primary disk is entirely full.
Urgent! What is the Name of this Mac Logo?12 Jul 2006 06:10 GMT28
What is the name of the early Mac Logo that consists of a highly
stylized, Picasso-inspired, outline of an original Mac, mouse connected
-- and where can I find a decent sized one on the web?
This design is needed, not for a line of fake Macs I'm coming out with,

New Mac user (MacBook, OS X 10.4).  Networked printer is a Dell (Xerox)
1600n.  The MacBook finds the printer, but I have not been able to print to
it successfully.  Printer status shows a print attempt, but after a few
minutes we get "Jobs Stopped."

need help for an imac in the south bay area, CA11 Jul 2006 20:33 GMT3
My brother's iMac (has like a 700mhz CPU) started to become really,
really slow and would kick him out of the internet after a few minutes.
I came to visit from out of state.  I determined that the imac's
hardware seems to be fine.  I suggested that we reload the Operating
Macs under $100 on eBay?11 Jul 2006 18:54 GMT8
I don't know anything about Mac's, but am curious about some of these
systems on eBay under $100.
The spec seems to be PowerMac G3 350-400mhz, iMac G3 up to 500mhz, and
G4 350-400mhz for under $100.
