G4 -> G5: Change hard disk20 Jun 2006 19:19 GMT1
I have two Apple PC's, a G4 and a G5. Now I like to change this two PC's,
because the G4 is too slow. Both Apple's has OS X 10.3.9 and different other
software installed. Can I only change the hard disk of this two PC's? Or do
I have to install the whole PC?
Vertical Mac Mini?20 Jun 2006 18:24 GMT2
I'm wondering if it might help the fan to have it point up?  Heat does
rise after all.  Has anyone tried it?  My Mini has no top, plastic
housing, notebook hard drive or optical drive.  So its all open.  But I
was wondering if the fan would work a little better.
iTunes and strange CD problem.20 Jun 2006 18:21 GMT3
I've got two drives on this computer, one's a DVD/CD reader. I think
it's a Lite-on. The other is a CD burniing drive of the same company.
Anyway,  was just playing CDs through iTunes and I put a rather dirty
copy of a Doors cd in the first drive, figuring it wouldn't play right.

After installing the most recent version of Firefox (1.5.0.4), I started
having problems including the inability to scroll using the Page Up and
Page Down commands.  At first I thought maybe the prefs were florfed but
that was not it.  So finally I just exported my bookmarks and ...
HELP PLEASE20 Jun 2006 00:47 GMT9
I have an iMac running OS 10.4.6, 1.5 meg ram.  Everything has been
working great for past 3-months.  I haven't added any new programs, etc.
I've been using Toast 7 to copy some of my movies and CD's.  Everything
worked fine, then all at once, Toast hangs up when I insert a CD or ...
Full messages?19 Jun 2006 23:47 GMT3
Greetings all, new to the group. Am I assuming correctly in that,
giving this group's high rate of activity, that it's not possible to
receive full copies of all messages sent to/from the list? It has to be
used completely from the web? Thanks.
G3 Powermac OS required19 Jun 2006 23:33 GMT6
Just got a G3 powermac and don't know much about them. It has no OS on it so
I need to download one or buy one from Ebay or somewhere.
What would be the best OS to put onto it? I head 10.2.8 would go on it but
would this give me any benefits over earlier versions?

Dragging text to create a file?19 Jun 2006 20:57 GMT3
I thought that there was a way to drag text off of a document or web
page and drop it on a finder window to create a file.  Something is
created by the finder, but it is not the kind of file I was
anticipating.
Macbook or Macbook Pro19 Jun 2006 20:07 GMT3
I considering purchasing one of these laptops but I can't decide which one.
I will be running Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXpress, and
probably
MS Office. Not all at the same time, probably two at once, maybe 3. Would
200GB is now 8GB?19 Jun 2006 19:18 GMT1
I've been using an external 200GB Firewire drive for a few months.
Today it showed up on my desktop with a generic icon, and all the icons
inside were generic. I ran Disk Utility ("no problems") and Disk
Warrior ("could not fix") so I backed up the data and reformatted the
Scanning with a Mac19 Jun 2006 19:15 GMT11
Perhaps this is a silly question, but how do I scan with my Mac (MacOS
10.4.6 on a Powerbook G4)?
I have a Canon N-670u USB scanner connected to the computer, but I
haven't a clue as to which software to use in order to scan a sheet of
New MacBook running slow19 Jun 2006 19:12 GMT23
I just bought my first Mac - the new MacBook with the 2 GHz Core Duo,
and 512 MB ram, and the shared video ram.
I thought that this would be comparible in speed to my desktop PC which
is a Dell Pentium 4, 1.6 GHz, 512 MB ram, with a G Force 2 graphics
