How  To Stop Spotlight?03 Jun 2006 19:58 GMT10
Every once in a while I must give Spotlight a tough task as Spotlight
sure takes a long time before results... with spinning beach ball and
user intervention blocked. I've not figured out how to easily stop it.
Anyone know how to interrupt/stop a Spotlight search? TIA... Jim

I recently swapped in a larger hard drive in my old g4 pb. I used ccc
via firewire to copy the current system onto the new drive, and then
installed it. It all works great, but when I boot the system, an icon
that appears to indicate some configuration problem with the disk

HI -- I'm well experienced in programming under unix, but haven't ever
played w/ c++.    I have successfully compiled c programs on OSX (using
gcc of course).     The problem is my child needs to write stuff in c++

I've got a 500 mhz G3 with OSX 10.3 that is very slow compared to a 600
mhz G3 with OSX 10.4.
What can I do to speed up the 500 MHZ machine? Can the bus speed be
changed - is that the problem?

when i print out anything when i'm using os X 10.3.9 it comes out very
very faint. this is true for netscape, safari, a pdf, something in
word, photshop, etc.
if am back using system 9 and print anything, it comes out clear &

Brand new iMac Core Duo with Parallels installed and Win XP Home.
Language is French and the keyboard layout is Swiss-French.
WinXP runs well and fast, except that the keyboard's numeric pad does not
respond. Any ideas ?

I bought a G5 iMac 2 weeks before the Dual Core were introduced. Ok,
bad enough. Then I convinced my brother who lives abroad what an
awesome system OS X is and he bought a top of the line MacBook Pro.

Why does it use the file extension for determining file type instead of
looking into the file for the type?
My Amiga used datatypes 15 years ago to determine what kind of file it
