spotlight content indexing05 Jun 2006 01:52 GMT8
In the past I've *thought* Spotlight failed to find some documents when
I searched by content.  Yesterday I used Spotlight to search a certain
folder by content and found that the folder's content had apparently not
been included in Spotlight's index.

Different Background seen when switching users04 Jun 2006 21:56 GMT4
Weird thing.  When I switch between users I see a different background
when the cube spins just before the actual background is shown.  Is
there any way to avoid this?  It's obviously not a big deal, but does
take away from the "cool" factor of the spinning cube.  It is showing
python at login on macintels04 Jun 2006 21:30 GMT23
Everytime I login on my new Macbook Pro, a process is started which is
listed as "(python)".   These processes are not cleaned up at logout: if
I login 10 times, 10 of them are setting around.  It's not a concern,
given that they're not doing anything or using any resources (other ...

What are Mac users experiences with Windows troubleshooting?04 Jun 2006 18:31 GMT7
I'm a Mac man heart and soul, and I've spent a lot of time helping my

"The Inserted Disk Was Not Readable By This Computer"04 Jun 2006 17:27 GMT7
I have a bunch of 400 Gig HDs in a FireWire tower enclosure. One of

By This Computer. initialize / ignore / eject" OSX warning at startup.
Drive Utility still sees the drive, but it cannot mount it. Should I

ADVICE NEEDED: installing OS X on a formerly OS 9 machine04 Jun 2006 12:26 GMT9
I am trying to install OS X (either 10.3 or 10.4) on a 2-3 old Macs --
an ibook300, an iMac333, and a b&w PowerMac 400. These systems have
relatively small HDs (6 gig, 10 gig, 10 gig), and so I'm thinking of
trying to wipe the HDs clean and install OS X only. Obviously, that
Keyboard shortcuts question04 Jun 2006 02:03 GMT3
In OSX 10.4.6, is there a keyboard shortcut to put the computer to sleep? I
can't seem to find it anywhere!
Also: on the Mac keyboard, what functions do the F13, F14, and F15 keys
perform? I can't find that info anywhere, either!
Security concerns04 Jun 2006 01:17 GMT2
Aside from the built in firewall and a antivirus program, what do I need to
protect myself in terms of Mac security?  Thanks.
