Apple must have the worst programmers anywhere if they write software
that ignores Unix file permissions and they do indeed do this
with Spotlight.  If you search for a file using a string
that appears in the filename of e.g. a JPEG owned by another user

My wireless setup (router) is downstairs in our house. Everything has
been working fine for several months (laptop downstairs; wife's e-Mac
upstairs). Suddenly, her connection has stopped (no bars) or become
very weak (1 or 2 bars). My laptop works flawlessly in either location.

Has anyone tried to install Windows 2000 within Parallels or Bootcamp ?
I am aware it is not supposed to work, but I feel WinXP does not bring
much to the play and is much slower and RAM-hungry than Win2k.

I noticed there is a log for practically everything that is done in
OSX, no matter how long ago those things were done.
When I opened all the logs in console, and tried to clear the old log
entries by using the "clear" icon, I noticed that the clear operation

A few months ago, I unwittingly installed norton anti virus on my imac
without really needing to.
Now that it's on there, i can't uninstall the damn thing with the
installer/uninstaller. i just doesn't seem to want to go.

I sometimes switch back to OS 9 to use old applications. I'd like to use
a script to switch startup disks and reboot. I've never had luck with
Applescript's syntax for that. Does anyone know how to do that in
applescript or preferably as a shell command?
