Getting a Macintosh SE/30 Running Again...13 Jun 2006 18:28 GMT17
Hello all...
I've had a Macintosh SE/30 that's been sitting around for a while. I'd
like to get it up and running once again. The hard disk has been wiped
and is empty.
Networked LaserJet Printing Gibberish13 Jun 2006 17:10 GMT2
I'm trying to set up a network printer for a small charity. We have a
G3 iMac running Tiger, and two linux desktops are on their way. The
printer is a LaserJet 5si MX and it's connected to the network using
the JetDirect 2552a. The mac can ping the printer at it's IP address,
B&W G3 identification13 Jun 2006 15:22 GMT5
Hello everyone.  On the back of my Beige G3 there is a label indicating
the basic hardware as shipped.
PowerPC G3 300MHz / 1MG Cache  (etc)
Is there any such indicator on a B&W G3 about the processer speed?
Working life of G413 Jun 2006 13:43 GMT32
I have a dual 500 G4 'Gigabit Ethernet' Power PC, bought new almost six
years ago. It's been working perfectly in all that time until a few weeks
ago when the power supply blew. I replaced the supply with a re-furbished
exchange unit and everything's peachy again ... for now.
An easy question.  Please help . . .13 Jun 2006 12:58 GMT9
Many of my Mac OS X files have spaces in them.  I am now getting into
UNIX and finding out that those spaces can be pretty pesky.  How can I
effectively and elegantly deal with executing UNIX commands with file
(or directories) that have more than one word.  Thanks in advance.
Help! Epson 740 won't print queue13 Jun 2006 12:53 GMT10
My friend  has a minimac (non-Intel) running 10.4.0 and an Epson sc740
USB printer.  While this printer isn't the state of the art, we can get
generic ink cartridges for it for about $3, which makes it attractive.
Anyway, out of the blue, when she tried to print, the printer gets ...
FINALLY managed to get my Lombard to run OSX (kinda)13 Jun 2006 07:03 GMT9
I don't want to throw my old Lombard powerbook away, or worse yet sell
it for a pittance on eBay to some uncaring person who would load it up
with OS8 or some equally dastardly fate.
So 3 weeks ago I started with OS 10.4.6 and worked my way backwards,

iPhoto import problem with video files13 Jun 2006 04:52 GMT1
I noticed that my iPhoto import hangs when I try to import pictures
from my CF card when it also includes .avi files.  My camera can take
pictures and videos.  Is there a way to avoid this issue?  I've read
elsewhere that using ImageCapture can solve the problem, but I'd rather
Unstealthy stealth mode.13 Jun 2006 03:37 GMT7
I have the (Apple) firewall in a 10.4.6 system set to stealth and yet
upon running the 'Shields up' probe port 0 is responding as 'closed' -
the only port to do so. All others are stealthed.
I know it's a 'non-port' port, so to speak, but it shouldn't be
Large file transfer software.13 Jun 2006 01:05 GMT10
Dear members:
I am looking for software to send large files that surpass the size usually
allowed as attachments by e-mail servers and ISPs.
So far I have tried FastSend and FileChute but haven't been impressed by
Beige G3 and Panther?12 Jun 2006 23:23 GMT8
I have the beige G3 desktopl with an 80G HD and a 4G HD.  Both have
OS9xx on 'em.  I'm about to donate it to a high school teacher who wants
to use iPhoto - he'll take the Mac if OSX is on the machine.
Will it take it?  The only alteration I made to the G3 while I owned it
Where are my iCal files?12 Jun 2006 20:11 GMT2
During the past day I backed up all my personal files and the whole
"library" (I skipped the "/library/cache" folder), reformatted/erased
my internal Powerbook hard-drive, then reinstalled MacOS etc.
But I'm having problems restoring my iCal calendar data (appointments
QT install problem 9.112 Jun 2006 20:07 GMT2
Hello everyone.  OS9.1, Beige G3 tower.  I was having some really bizarre
problems with things freezing, and narrowed it down to USB devices (PCI
card) and extensions.  After much tweaking, I finaally did a clean
install.  Problems gone.
Boot Camp or Parallels?12 Jun 2006 19:22 GMT8
I'm in the throes of moving to a Dual Core Mac mini from an aging twin
processor desktop G4 machine.
Some of the things I do have to run on Windoze, unfortunately. I was
looking at Boot Camp and Parallels. What I want to do is something
