My iBook isn't warm enough?27 May 2006 17:31 GMT11
I have a strange problem with my iBook G4. The startup takes a looong
time. It takes something between 5 and 20 minutes to startup the
machine (this is the time it takes for the login screen to appear).
When I then login and start using the machine, every action takes a

Is the new Macbook Pro missing a modem?27 May 2006 08:51 GMT35
Is this right?
I personally send many faxes and could not live without a built in modem. I
can understand Apple's logic for elliminating the modem on their desktops,
but laptops?  Laptops are supposed to be portable. What will people who live
The next iPod27 May 2006 06:26 GMT5
One has to wonder what the next generation will have in store.  But I can
imagine that movies are not far from being downloaded for a price, just like
music.  However at thsi time, it appears that movies are too large for a
download.

I'd like to move the users account (home directory) to a new partition.
How do I do this?
Blank CD's or CD-RW won't mount on a MAC G527 May 2006 03:27 GMT9
I think the drive is OK as I can mount regular commercial CD's with
data but not blank media. I tried a few blank disks. The CD's don't
show in the finder windows, and it's not set to ignore. The dialog box
came up asking me how I wanted to proceed so I know it knows it's
keyboard shortcut to bypass trash?27 May 2006 00:14 GMT10
I know there has to be a way to do this, but I haven't got lucky
trying to find it so far.
When reading in photos from compact flash, I stick the card in
the reader, it mounts up, I open it, drag and drop onto the
My love affair with BlackBook and Intel iMac27 May 2006 00:04 GMT1
Since 1993 I've been an OS/2-only user and advocate.  It wasn't until
this past January, when IBM finally dropped support for OS/2 entirely,
that I found myself looking to my computing future.  I didn't use
Windows anything even tho' I owned three Thinkpads (T30, T40 and T41).

Yahoo Maps -- What Happened?  [OT]26 May 2006 22:59 GMT3
A few weeks ago when one visited Yahoo Maps one was presented with an
extremely elegant interface in which one could choose to view a map, a
satellite view, or a hybrid view combining the map and satellite views. Now
all one gets is just the map view, and that without the ...

good value colour printer for small business26 May 2006 20:59 GMT1
I am having to purchase upto 4 printers for a small business network
running os9. Two of the existing Epson printers are refusing to print,
claiming they need to be serviced. They are only two or three years old
and have cost an utter fortune in ink.
Online backup solutions for my computer26 May 2006 20:58 GMT3
Yahoo web hosting is not exactly optimized for backup.  So what do you guys
reccommend I use to backup my files online?  Yes I am using Retrospect to
backup my disk  to USB hard drive, but I could use a online backup solution
for file backup of a select number of files.
Imac g3 relavance revisited...26 May 2006 18:16 GMT3
I think I had posted here before about this, but I'd like to discuss it
again. I have a g3 imac 700 with 80 gb hd and 1 gb ram, and I'm curious
as to who here uses this sort of system anymore, and how relevant it is
in the world of "macintel" and the g5 and even g4 processors. I
