Update on multiple Mac OS X and Safari Vulnerabilities23 Apr 2006 00:24 GMT5
These have all been reported on earlier in the year.  However, it seems
as though Tom Ferris's discoveries are getting some new coverage
lately.  These are all unpatched vulnerabilities...and Proof-of-concept
code is available for all but one of them.

changing SSHD port?22 Apr 2006 19:40 GMT17
I want to enable remote logins to my Mac, but I'd rather not use the
default SSH port because the kiddies like to probe it all the time.
Unfortunately, my router's port forwarding doesn't let you specify a
different inside port from the outside port, so I can't do something

I have gotten a old Mac PowerBook 1400cs from a friend of mine. The
hard disk is either corrupt or damaged. We get the floppy simbol with
question mark or x.
So we wanted to try booting it off the floppy and see if it possible to
Can't copy files to backup hard drive22 Apr 2006 16:15 GMT2
Have been using macs for years but this one has me stumped. I am trying
to back up my entire hard drive on a new external drive but I get an

how to restart postfix via cron22 Apr 2006 15:44 GMT1
I use Postfix Enabler but I noticed that postfix regularly stops working,
probably after each OS update and/or security update.
How could I keep restarting postfix via a cron job?
Thanks, PaulN
Starting Safari from the command line22 Apr 2006 03:42 GMT23
I would like to interact with Safari directly, without using 'open -a
Safari' or cocoa, in order to launch Safari with a URL.  Unfortunately,
when I do this from my home directory:

Optimizing OSX ?22 Apr 2006 00:30 GMT8
I need to optimize my PB G4-OS X.4 as it has become quite "heavy" with
successive OS updates and installation
of softwares. Is there a good "how-to" around ?
A few ideas :
Sluggish Mail.app behavior21 Apr 2006 23:25 GMT1
Starting, perhaps by coincidence, a couple of days ago when I installed
the newest Java on my system, Mail.app has done the following
undesirable behaviors:
1) While it used to be almost 100% accurate in detecting Junk mail and
Has drag drop of DF and DB files destroyed my files?21 Apr 2006 22:06 GMT6
Recently, after upgrading from OS 9 to Tiger, I made the error of drag
dropping everything in my old system folder (command-a) onto a second
internal drive which contains my most important client files; thus,
leaving it impossible to gain access to my most important files.
change film roll name in iPhoto21 Apr 2006 21:47 GMT20
The latest iPhoto (6.0.2) help says I can change the name and/or date of
a film roll.  It says to select the library then View > Film Roll and click
on the film icon in the viewing area.
This doesn't seem to do anything on my system.  Any pointers?
ISO Help Updating 10.221 Apr 2006 21:23 GMT1
I inherited an X 10.2 system. Using the Software Updater, I downloaded the
10.2.8 update package. After installing, I was told to restart. Now, every
time I restart, I continue to get a "You must restart ..." message just
after the initial startup screen.
Bizarre web access problem solved21 Apr 2006 20:38 GMT4
Some time ago I posted here looking for help about some really strange
problems on my mac.  Certain sites were dead slow, like 4 minute load times
for the initial page and every click deeper into these sites also took
forever. Also some sites would just absolutely not load, just ...
"Phoning home" IP detection sw sought to protect laptop21 Apr 2006 19:58 GMT15
As I just had my 17" PB stolen, I'd like to better protect my new Mac
Book Pro.
I now have my whole user directory encrypted with FileVault.
I would assume this renders attempts to get at my data futile.
