I have an imac on which somebody has loaded OSX without running the
firmware update first and the graphics do not display properly. I
understand I need to run the update under OS9 or OS8.6+. I have

  I'm using Panther, 10.3.9.  I haven't yet figured out how to move
something from junk directly "out", so I don't have to go to trash and
empty the trash to get rid of the 'trashed' junk I don't want.  Junk is
handy but I'd like to be able to bypass trash, if possible.
