Question re: Mac OS 9.1 Software08 Apr 2006 07:36 GMT6
I have a Mac G4 running System 9.1 and don't want to "upgrade" to OSX
because it won't run several of my old programs (MS-Works 3.0, Quicken
98 etc.) not to mention the new software and hardware I'd probably have
to buy.

In Classic, I have Excel 4 spreadsheets that I've created over many

ClarisWorks5 is a way to save the documents so that AppleWorks can open
them in OS X.  Claris will open Excel 4 spreadsheets under the ...
G4 frequently crashes08 Apr 2006 02:02 GMT6
My fiance has had a G4 since 1998.  It's gone through a number of OS
upgrades and now it's running OS 10.3.9.  It had always suffered from
very consistent instability and we hoped it would get better once we
got OS X on it, but that was not to be.  It crashes all the time,

Could someone tell me if does Xserve (Tiger) support Terminal Services
just like Windows 2000 Server?

I've never had any problem ssh-ing to other machines from mine, but
recently I've started getting the following error every time I use ssh:

Glitch in 10.4.6?07 Apr 2006 20:35 GMT6
Raised this in another NG, just one 'no problem here' response.
I upgraded my G4 Quicksilver from 10.4.5 to 10.4.6 via
Apple/Support/Downloads and all went well.  Did the Repair Permissions
before and after.
Browsers for OS 907 Apr 2006 19:17 GMT3
I was trying to help a friend-- she has an iMac with OS 9.1 on it, and
has been having problems using Internet Explorer 5.1.7 on secure sites
like webmail... it works, eventually, but only with repeated warnings
about outdated security certificates. One warning per page might be
OS X apps now really Quit when requested to Quit??07 Apr 2006 17:07 GMT12
Am I hallucinating or has there been a behavior change in OS X
with respect to the behavior of Quit?   When I first got my iBook
at 10.2, I was surprised that when one Quit an app, it did not
really exit, but continued to run.

I am running OSX 10.4.5 (I think: see below) on a G4.
I recently used Software Update to download the OSX 10.4.6 patch and
all went well until, near the end of the installation phase, I received
a warning that the installation had failed (no reason given, of
