Having endless trouble with PDFs. Cannot open most PDFs but some do open. I

The problem below started a few days ago.
I have several Macs with identical network setup, same DNS [nameserver] and
all work perfectly on the same home network except one which runs OS X 10.3.9
[the others run 10.4.5].

I'm having a strange problem with my dual core iMac. Many times when I
boot up it "forgets" to connect to the wireless network. I have to
select my network from the Airport menu, and then things work fine. I've
set up my home network as the preferred network.

I backed up, partitioned, and installed Tiger on a Pismo, with OS 9 on
the second partition so the thing could dual boot. I partitioned the
drive by setting the Pismo in firewire target mode off my Blue & White,
