/usr/bin/zip vs archiving in the Finder08 Mar 2006 03:43 GMT4
What's the difference between /usr/bin/zip and archiving in the Finder?
I noticed that /usr/bin/zip doesn't preserve the cretor/type IDs which can be
verified SuperGet Info [aka sgi]. Archiving from the finder does preserve it.
Is the latter using another zip mechanism? If so, where ...

Finder, List view, file length?07 Mar 2006 20:47 GMT7
So I set the Finder view to List.  I take out all the columns.  You
would think I would have the full screen width to use for the file
names.  But no.  Is there any way of using more than about 40% of the
available screen width?  I work with very long file names and now the
Repeated keychain prompts - OS X Tiger07 Mar 2006 20:13 GMT2
I have a user who is getting repeated keychain prompts. The prompts are
for the system's former user who isn't with the company anymore.
I've gone into keychain manager and don't know what to do to get rid of
these prompts.
Command+` and MS 4000 keyboard doesn't work07 Mar 2006 20:04 GMT1
So I just upgraded my keyboard to the Microsoft Natural 4000.  Its the
new black, ergo, split design with cushioned keys and the zoom button.
I got the latest driver (though I also tried it with the previous driver
as well.)  For some inexplicable reason it just won't let me use ...
Personal LaserWriter NT?07 Mar 2006 17:45 GMT10
It has been about a year and a half since I last asked this.  I was
wondering if there was any change in the situation since.
I have a Personal LaserWriter NT left over from my "Classic OS" days".  Is
there any hope of using this from Tiger (10.4.5)?  Issues are
So, anyone buy an Intel Mini Duo?  Impressions?07 Mar 2006 17:18 GMT3
I might take the plunge and risk buying one, if they do not suffer from
the same slight buzzing noise that afflicts the MacBook.
Curious if the duo mini will drive that  $166 cheapo double screen
display that I see advertised in some PC magazines, the one that they
Folder icon on boot up - cannot find hard disc in disk first aid07 Mar 2006 14:25 GMT1
Following on from my post yesterday, many thanks for the advice Alan.  I
have found the CD and booted to it.
However, when I go into Disc First Air, it only lists the CD rom.  Should I
be seeing the hard drive in there?
Windows Media Player not dispalying video content07 Mar 2006 13:50 GMT8
For some reason, Windows Media Player isn't displaying video content.
However, it *does* play the audio associated with a WMV file.
Suggestions on how to fix?

I am about to try to fix a problem whereby a Mac G4 isn't booting into OS9

I have all the CDs with me and I'm confused as to which this is.
There are two Mac OS X Install Discs and four Software Restore discs.  There
FTP client for very old Mac07 Mar 2006 09:40 GMT9
In the lab we have an old MacIIcx (System 7.5), which is still used for
some camera calibrations with some special software. Until now the
acquired files were transfered via AppleTalk to another not-so-old Mac,
with System 9.2.
How many CD's make up a full Tiger install?07 Mar 2006 09:29 GMT6
I am interested in obtaining Tiger 10.4 on CDs - the limitations of my
iMac dictate this. I have seen offers to sell these CDs but with
different numbers of discs mentioned. How many should make up the full
install?

At my house I am unable to connect to the wireless network with my g4
powerbook.  I have the right password, and other laptops are able to
connect.  I acts like I don't have the right password.
REQ Links or leads to how to replace dead CPUs07 Mar 2006 00:52 GMT4
I have a QS DP800 Mac that I cannot get running. When I attempt to boot
the machine with a Tiger DVD, I get an error message stating that cpu1

As I see it, I need to either replace the cpu, or use the Mac as a boat
