Receive Active X IP camera on a Mac?02 Feb 2006 10:06 GMT4
My friend, who is Mac, had some IP cameras installed in his store. He went
to the IP addresses for the cameras and they are using Active X, a Microsoft
proprietary invention. Unfortunately, he has already spent thousands on
these cameras.
Final Cut Apple ripoff02 Feb 2006 04:33 GMT1
Apple locks down Final Cut / Final Cut Pro 4.x and whatever other versions
there are down to not run on anything except a machine with an AGP card.
Pathetic way to program since they have a very limited array of hardware
they need to program for and still can't manage to do it ...
why can't I find BOM Archive Helper .app?02 Feb 2006 03:53 GMT2
I think BOMArchiveHelper.app is installed on my computer but I can't
see it in the Application or Applications/Utilities folder. Maybe I am
not grasping how the Finder's Find command is OS X works; it never
seems to find anything for me. I guess that's two questions really,
print test page from Personal Laserwriter 320?02 Feb 2006 03:26 GMT3
I recently returned to the Mac side when I purchased a new iBook G4 last
fall. I'm running Tiger, 10.4.4 (latest update). I would like to hook my
iBook up to a printer I already have, which I got way back when I used
to use a Mac (can't remember exactly the year, but the last OS ...
HELP: iBook G4 doused with ginger ale02 Feb 2006 00:49 GMT17
Howdy all,
My nephew spilled ginger ale all over his 12" iBook. Not surprising, it
doesn't boot reliably now. By that I mean when it does, the Apple logo
appears (OS 10.3.9 btw) but that's all. The screen then goes thru the
Security on a Mac02 Feb 2006 00:19 GMT12
I am so sick of PC viruses that I....well, anyway I used to be a unix
internals/networking guy and it seems to me that the MACH/BSD Macs are
fairly immune to viruses but at the Mac store they are selling symantec
anti viral stuff. Am I misguided about Mac security?
kernel_task processes?02 Feb 2006 00:11 GMT6
Could somebody indicate to me how I can have an idea of the processes
running under the general name 'kernel_task'. Could also Powerbook
users indicate to me how much of RAM is used by this process.
On mine: 113 MB - 999 MB virtual
Wi-Fi question01 Feb 2006 21:07 GMT74
I know very little on this subject, but is it possible to detect if/when
someone is utilizing my wi-fi system (say my Airport Express for
example)?  (I think I understand I can protect it via firewall, WPA,
etc. but my question is if in the instance I leave everything freely
Where are file extensions mapped?01 Feb 2006 20:40 GMT8
For example, I type "touch test.mac" in the terminal and the Finder
thinks the resulting file is a MacPaint Image File.
Where is this mapping stored and is it possible to change it?
("Open With..." does not seem to affect it. Latest version of Tiger)
Will Apple Continue to Make PowerPC's?01 Feb 2006 19:27 GMT43
My business runs on an OS9 only application, and there aren't many other
choices under OSX.
Currently I am running on a machine that boots in OS9 but the program
runs in Classic just fine.
Appleworks 6 data base01 Feb 2006 18:47 GMT4
How many field are allowed in db for appleworks 6.  I seem to be
limited to 9 on my version.  Even way back to my Apple 2e and
Appleworks with that I remember being able to have more than that.
Using "Automator" with Mozilla01 Feb 2006 17:51 GMT9
I've recently discovered something called "Automator" on my Powerbook
with MacOS 10.4.4 and thought it might just be what I need, doing
repetitive tasks, but can't figure out how to use it.
The MacOS help as well as automator itself gives me the impression that
OS X memory loss01 Feb 2006 17:25 GMT3
Please help. I have just upgraded to OSX at last, resisting all I could
ditching 9 but software upgrades have forced me to do so! I have an old
graphite ibook which I have partitioned into 3 drives. on one partition
I have OSX when freshly installed leaves 900 meg left on hard drive ...
Can't see new drive in Disk Utility01 Feb 2006 14:05 GMT8
Bought two new 500GB SATA drives for my dual 2.7 G5 and tried to install
them tonight. Disk Utility does not recognize them.
They are Seagate model ST3500641AS
Any ideas? Even if they were over the size the controller could see, I would
Pages 06 so slow I cant use it - any suggestions?01 Feb 2006 12:33 GMT3
Any suggestions?:
I ordered iWork 06. Pages is so slow that it is barely usable. Simple
selects take seconds, scrolling is painfully slow etc. Even typing is
delayed so letters appear only a second after being typed. MS Word and
