No Upgrade Price for iLife05 Feb 2006 05:00 GMT9
I was at the local Apple store today, and I was told that even if you
bought previous versions of iLife, you still have to pay full price for
the new version. That seems unusual.
Monitor 'blacking out'05 Feb 2006 03:37 GMT4
I have a mac mini and a viewsonic vp171b both of which were purchased
in July 2005. We normally keep both of the devices on all of the time
and let them go to sleep rather than turn them off.
About 10 days ago the monitor started blacking out after about 2 1/2
Audio extractor that will permit selection by "drag" of mouse?05 Feb 2006 02:18 GMT1
I've got some CDRs that I created in order to back up music from digital
audio tapes (DATs) via one of the early Philips CD recorders. The discs came
out fine, however, the Philips auto ID feature was a bit imperfect,
resulting in a little less than a second of a song starting ...
changing system sounds05 Feb 2006 01:40 GMT3
OK, I've googled for quite a while, and it's time to ask for help.
I have some aiff sound files that I want to use to replace the system
sounds in Tiger. For instance, when I move something to the trash, I
want my new sound to play rather than the default. How do I do this?
HELP: iBook Doused with ginger ale - Part 205 Feb 2006 00:41 GMT2
Thanks all for the responses. It would appear that the best way to
clean it is to clean the logic board with distilled water and
thoroughly dry it for a few days and then reassemble. Ok, I've got
access to Type 1 water and dry nitrogen gas so I'll clean with water
Does OSX.4 need defrag?04 Feb 2006 20:28 GMT2

defraging.  But i have seen some bootable defrag software around.
Do OSX boot drives need to be occasionally defraged?
Setting up a RAID array.04 Feb 2006 17:57 GMT1
I have three 60Gb IDE Hard drives that I could use in a RAID array in my
G3.  Trouble is, using the software RAID tool in the disk utility doesn't
allow it to boot from a RAID array as the startup disk.  I guess the RAID
software has to be started sometime during the OS X bootup.
Carbon Copy Cloner over network!04 Feb 2006 16:03 GMT2
I just had what I think is a cool result from an experiment.   Carbon
Copy Cloner will only let you use local drives, either real or mounted
disk images, so that would mean, I thought, that a backup drive would
have to be physically connected, in turn, to each machine I want to

Time to replace my HP pc and I'm tempted to go with a Mac. Unfortunately, I've read a lot of user dissatisfaction about Quicken on macs. Would appreciate any comments on your experience w/ using Mac version of Quicken. Thanks
Laserwriter Select 360 and iMac04 Feb 2006 10:59 GMT5
I have an old iMac DV and even older Apple Laserwriter Select 360
Printer.  What is the best way to hook up the printer to the iMac (if
possible).  I purchased a USB to Parallel cable, but it doesn't seem to
work.  Can anyone provide some assistance.  Thanks!
sound output under multiple user accounts04 Feb 2006 08:24 GMT1
It used to be that I could hear sounds played under one user account
while logged into another.  I remember hearing my wife's mail arriving,
people paging her on Skype, etc while logged into my account.  I also used
to be able to play iTunes through one account and switch to ...
