A new Switcher08 Feb 2006 13:09 GMT32
Yea, I switched.  So far so good.  I picked up a mini and am having a
lot of fun using it and tinkering.  I have a few questions if you folks
have time:
1) Is this the best place to get mac info, or can you all recommend
OS 10.3 install08 Feb 2006 13:07 GMT5
I am trying to install 10.3 on a Blue and White G3 PowerMac that has
had this OS version before, from these same CDs (I just used these CDs
a few days ago to install 5 other systems).  When I run the install, it
finishes CD 1, and when it gets to about 3/4 of the way through CD 2,
WOW (WideOpenWest) Throttles P2P ?08 Feb 2006 10:23 GMT1
Hi, does anyone know or suspect their WOW-supplied cable modem (mine's
a Webstar DCX2100) of throttling (limiting) P2P download speeds?
There's a lot of chatter online about poor performance, for example 10
kbps top speeds even though I have WOW's 6 mbps service. I'm using a
HELP: resetting iBook after ginger ale bath08 Feb 2006 04:40 GMT3
My story continues...... after removing the HD, CD-R, and heatsink/fan
assembly from the logicboard, I thoroughy rinsed it, the keyboard, and
the underside of the trackpad with a gentle stream of Type I

How to "exclude" parts in FileVault07 Feb 2006 22:16 GMT6
I'd like to finally switch FileVault on for my home directory (assuming
it is safe by now, ie no data loss).
If feasible I'd like to exclude the folders Music, Movies and Pictures,
as I do not need to protect these, and assume speed loss when using this

of a G5 for performance?  If a URL explains this please offer it.
Readers Which Understand .pff Hyperlinks07 Feb 2006 21:27 GMT10
I'm the editor of a Mac usergroup newsletter, issues of which can be found at
<http://www.capmac.org/newsletters/>. For the February 2006 issue I've added
hyperlinks so that the user can quickly move from location to location within
the newsletter. My testing shows that these ...
Q: why 2 different Get Info box behaviors in Tiger?07 Feb 2006 18:50 GMT11
I'm running OS X 10.4.4 on my G5 2.0 DP. I've noticed that there are two
different types of Get Info boxes which may arise when doing Get Info in
the Finder. They behave differently in a very annoying way. I wonder if
there is any reason for this behavior. Maybe someone here ...
iBook G4 track pad problem07 Feb 2006 17:21 GMT1
OK. The machine is about a year and 1/2 old and it's happening more and
more that the cursor will simply become uncontrollable (i.e. staying in
one sector of the screen no matter how much I move my finger across the
pad or, alternately, careening wildly around the screen with the ...
