Iomega CDRW USB 2 acting a little strange...15 Feb 2006 01:15 GMT2
I have an Iomega refurbished CDRW drive that I have plugged into a USB2
card in an old PowerMac G4 350 AGP.  It burns fine, with Toast Lite 6.1
in OS X 10.3.9, but when verifying, Toast will hang up early on.  I
can't even force quit the app, and I have to unplug the drive to free
Mac OS X on Amd6415 Feb 2006 00:10 GMT3
Is it possible to install Mac OS X on a Amd 64 Athlon processor? I know
that it's possible to install it on an Intel (x86). And has anyone
tried to install it on an Acer Ferrari 3200 laptop?
I would really like to have Mac OS X Tiger running on my laptop. I

I would like to access the itunes shared library of several others

care to do this). However my computer is behind a NAT router, unlike
everyone else who are all directly connected to the internet. Does

No card-slot on Intel iMac - - - Fooey!14 Feb 2006 20:35 GMT32
Why did Apple leave out a card slot on the new Intel iMac ?
The MacBook Pro has a card slot, why not on the Intel iMac ?
Apple says that forthcoming cards for the MacBook Pro's ExpressCard
slot will be able to provide FireWire 800 ports for people who need

Has anyone tried the Ubuntu Linux disto on a PPC Mac?  I was
thinking of getting a mini while they're still around (and the
price keeps dropping) to run as a big-endian box, or does the
PPC Linux run the processor in the other mode?
Changing Forgotten Administrator Password14 Feb 2006 17:39 GMT6
Tonight I was quite taken aback with the ease with which one can replace a
forgotten administrative password. In about a minute one can reset the
administrative password without having the foggiest as to what the current
password is. This seems like a major lapse of security. I'm ...
Strange system behavior14 Feb 2006 17:32 GMT3
I'm just compiling/installing some applications with Darwinports (with
"nice -n 20"), but my system is showing some very strange behavior:
There's a process "mds" that takes a constant 50% of system activity.  I
can't kill it, so I guess it's running as root (i.e. I don't want to
Beginner font ? and palatino?14 Feb 2006 16:50 GMT5
These are some beginner font questions if someone has the time/patience.
I've never paid much attention to fonts over the years, never installed
any other than those that might have come with applications. Early on,
15 years ago or so, I settled on Palatino and I've stayed with it ...
How do I change default app for files with no extension?14 Feb 2006 16:15 GMT3
I work with a lot of UNIX source packages.
Most of these have 'Makefiles' and 'README' files.
When I try to open them with the Finder they always
open with 'TextEdit'. I want them to open with Vim.

Hi, my name is Shirley Chan.  I am an undergrad at The Ohio State
University.  We are now conducting a research study to find out more
about iPod as well as other, similar mp3 player.
Please take approximately 5 mins to complete the survey.
Recent switcher seeks hardware recommendations14 Feb 2006 14:03 GMT5
I have been pining to switch ever since I saw the first screens from OS
X. Last October I began testing the waters by purchasing a iBook G4
(14.1" 933MHz; 256MB RAM; 40GB HD; DVD-ROM/CD-RW) off eBay, along with
an upgrade to Tiger.
