desecrating my Mac?  installing VPC?15 Feb 2006 19:31 GMT10
I'm about to enter the netherworld of Windoze.  I've had a mac since
1983 and feel fortunate to say that I've never done windows...  until
now.
But there's an art rendering program I want to experiment with, and,

My login items periodically disappear. How do I keep this from
happening?
Strange problem with Finder and 4GB compact flash?15 Feb 2006 17:58 GMT5
I have been up using a 2GB lexar compact flash card in my SLR
for photos until the last few days.  It worked fine, Finder
could be used to drag photos off to wherever, and then I'd
process them with PS or whatever.
Housekeeping Question15 Feb 2006 17:50 GMT6
I turn my G4 off each night.  I try to remember to run MacJanitor each week
or so, but sometimes forget.
Will my Mac (OS 10.3.9) perform regular housekeeping if it just sleeps at
night, or should I turn sleep off and just turn off the monitor?
LaCie LaSucks15 Feb 2006 17:34 GMT10
Is anyone considering the purchase of a Lacie Porsche FireWire drive?
Well, don't.  It's not worth the aggravation.
I bought 13 of these disks not too far back and they are all
giving me grief.  Part of the fault is the design of the

copy/backup15 Feb 2006 16:50 GMT5
I use cd to back up (copy)files.  On my win2k machine all I do is to
drag file to CD-RW whenever I want to add a file to my backup cd. No
special software is required.  All I use is windows explorer.

Problems installing OS X on Cube15 Feb 2006 16:33 GMT10
I'm trying to fix a friend's Cube after the HD failed, and I cannot get it
to install OS 10.3 or 10.4 (haven't tried anything else).
The install goes fine until it just stops (in the OS 10.3, this is usually
at the Asian Language portion). I can install just fine with the same discs
Installing X11 over a -no longer existing!- Existing X11 install15 Feb 2006 16:14 GMT1
Hum the subject says it all :-)
I want to install X11 (again), for the old X11 is gone (probably had to
do with the gnome-desktop install i tried). Anyway, I downloaded the
X11 User for Mac OS X . dmg file, and want to install X11User.pkg. When

Has anyone been able to view Nett-TV on www.nrk.no using a Mac, or is it
acknowledged to be a Windows-only service?

New Version of Appleworks?15 Feb 2006 11:12 GMT2
Does anyone know if a newer, more updated version of Appleworks for OSX is
imminent? Appleworks 6 has a copyright date of 2003. The spreadsheet
function needs to be more Excel-like, supporting multiple-page tabs and the
like. What's the hold up?
Ibook G4 - Worth buying ?15 Feb 2006 10:12 GMT2
How would a G4 1.33ghz ibook compare to my Samsung 1.5ghz celeron laptop ? I
would hope about the same though the screen is quite tiny at only 12.1"
Would it run faster than my mac mini also which has 1gb of RAM and just the
1.2ghz CPU ?
Adaptor to hook up CD-R burner (IDE) to La CIe SCSI external enclosure?15 Feb 2006 05:34 GMT2
I've got an old La Cie external SCSI CDR-CDRW burner (only 4X speed, as
I recall!) which I would like to use in order to power a Pioneer
DVR-107D that I've had in my G4 for awhile, as I'm going to throw a
newer Pioneer in the G4 that I just purchased.
Anyone willing to e-mail me 10.4.4 version of iChat?15 Feb 2006 02:30 GMT2
I posted a few days ago re: the munging of some OSX apps like iChat and
iSync after installing the 10.4.4 combo updater, and I still haven't
acquired a fix. In the meantime, I really need to be using iChat, so is
there a kindly soul out there who wouldn't mind e-mailing it to me? ...
