Can I unpartition my HD and get rid of OS 926 Jan 2006 23:12 GMT3
Hey All ~
Just wondering if I can unpartition my HD and get rid of OS 9. I used
to need it and now I don't. I really only use my OS 10.3.9 and I dont
really want to save everything to disk and have to reinstall all my
File type associates equivalent in Mac - Inserting blank CD opens Itunes - NOT what it used to - Help!26 Jan 2006 22:10 GMT4
A Mac using friend asked me (PC user) to help. When they inserted a blank CD
into the Mac Mini it now opens ITunes which is not the behaviour they want.
They tell me it used to give them option with what they wanted to do with

High winds at dawn.... G-526 Jan 2006 22:09 GMT4
Woke up to hear a wind rushing in my home office, and discoverd my dual
G-5 @1.8MHz was in full blow on (seemingly) all fans. Monitor dark,
wouldn't wake, so I pressed power button to shut down. This a.m., cold
boot into a seemingly untouched (ie. all fine) system; no hint of ...
new Macs to use Intel CPU's!?!?26 Jan 2006 21:30 GMT4
I thought Apple was a "revolutionary, progressive, different" company?
Then why are they using crappy Intel chips?  AMD chips are faster, better,
and cheaper than Intel chips.  I guess Intel gives sweetheart deals to all
the huge PC manufacturers to unload their inferior ...
Internet security26 Jan 2006 21:22 GMT2
I have just connected to broadband, on a G4 Powerbook. I would like
some advice on security, if anyone can help. Basically, is it actually
necessary to install anything, like a "firewall", or anti-virus? If I
am using the machine for transactions, is my machine safe from "worms"
Problems with ditto26 Jan 2006 21:03 GMT2
We recently purchased a new Xserve to be our file server. Our old
file server is now our web hosting server. We used ditto to copy the
files over to the new machine (we do not have a raid). The problem is
that many of the files and folders that were moved over are not visible
any GPG users? 26 Jan 2006 20:00 GMT9
I hit a dead end several months ago after intalling GnuPG on my new
Tiger iMacG5, (because PGP isn't free anymore and I can't transfer it
from my old machine), so I am asking here:
GPG will decrypt fine using GPGDropthing (GUI App).

Is it worth the extra expense, when an iMac is for low key home use, to go
from 512KB to 1 Meg?  What are the significant benefits?

Is Spotlight constantly changing resource forks of files?26 Jan 2006 17:38 GMT7
Is Spotlight constantly changing resource forks of files?  I wrote an
rsync script to do backups that I run from cron.  Every time it runs,
there's half a million lines like this:

This is a continuation of a thread formerly entitled "Migration" with a
new question.
Does OS 10.3 install specific systems depending on what model it is
installed on?
Tiger - How to Question26 Jan 2006 10:16 GMT6
I take a lot of digital photos and the files only have a
single date stamp which defaults on OS X and Windows as the file's
"modified" date.  This satisfies incremental backup programs and
serves as a base date to the user for determining if the file has been
Network Drives on the Mac26 Jan 2006 09:04 GMT1

can on Windows) on the mac when it starts up? Is this possible? I'm
using Panther.
Thanking you in advance.
Safari crashing problems26 Jan 2006 07:41 GMT2
I'm running Safari 1.3.2 on a G4 tower with OS 10.3.9.
For a long time (and before recent software updates), Safari has a habit
of frequent crashes.  I notice that it almost always crashes on the CBS
Marketwatch site, once I've clicked past the site's front page.  The
