| High winds at dawn.... G-5 | 26 Jan 2006 22:09 GMT | 4 |
Woke up to hear a wind rushing in my home office, and discoverd my dual G-5 @1.8MHz was in full blow on (seemingly) all fans. Monitor dark, wouldn't wake, so I pressed power button to shut down. This a.m., cold boot into a seemingly untouched (ie. all fine) system; no hint of ...

| new Macs to use Intel CPU's!?!? | 26 Jan 2006 21:30 GMT | 4 |
I thought Apple was a "revolutionary, progressive, different" company? Then why are they using crappy Intel chips? AMD chips are faster, better, and cheaper than Intel chips. I guess Intel gives sweetheart deals to all the huge PC manufacturers to unload their inferior ...

I have just connected to broadband, on a G4 Powerbook. I would like some advice on security, if anyone can help. Basically, is it actually necessary to install anything, like a "firewall", or anti-virus? If I am using the machine for transactions, is my machine safe from "worms"

I hit a dead end several months ago after intalling GnuPG on my new Tiger iMacG5, (because PGP isn't free anymore and I can't transfer it from my old machine), so I am asking here: GPG will decrypt fine using GPGDropthing (GUI App).

Is it worth the extra expense, when an iMac is for low key home use, to go from 512KB to 1 Meg? What are the significant benefits?

Is Spotlight constantly changing resource forks of files? I wrote an rsync script to do backups that I run from cron. Every time it runs, there's half a million lines like this: common/Applications/Carbon Copy Cloner/._Troubleshooting CCC

| Clone System | 26 Jan 2006 12:25 GMT | 5 |
This is a continuation of a thread formerly entitled "Migration" with a new question. Does OS 10.3 install specific systems depending on what model it is installed on?

| Tiger - How to Question | 26 Jan 2006 10:16 GMT | 6 |
I take a lot of digital photos and the files only have a single date stamp which defaults on OS X and Windows as the file's "modified" date. This satisfies incremental backup programs and serves as a base date to the user for determining if the file has been

| Safari crashing problems | 26 Jan 2006 07:41 GMT | 2 |
I'm running Safari 1.3.2 on a G4 tower with OS 10.3.9. For a long time (and before recent software updates), Safari has a habit of frequent crashes. I notice that it almost always crashes on the CBS Marketwatch site, once I've clicked past the site's front page. The
