Migration08 Jan 2006 14:11 GMT5
I just ordered a refurb PowerBook from the Apple Store Online.
It comes with 10.3.3 installed.
I would like to migrate everything from a MDD G4 running 10.3.9.
I assume that since the Migration Assistant wasn't installed until
G5 - Proper Temperatures?08 Jan 2006 14:06 GMT10
Hey, all,
Every once in a while in my office I get a funny smell that reminds me
of burning insulation, ozone, or of that "electrical parts cleaner"
spray that you use on electric motors, armatures, etc., to get them
Just bought a Mac and I gotta question08 Jan 2006 10:09 GMT8
So, after about a year of seeing how much easier my brother's ibook is,
I took the plunge and replaced my desktop with a PowerMac.  This thing
is probably more power than I needed, but for the price, I don't think I
could have done better.  My biggest question right now would be ...
airport express setup08 Jan 2006 05:57 GMT3
I am trying to set up Airport Express and quit smoking at the same
time.  I am feeling like the two are incompatable.  Currently, I THINK
I need to "connect to an existing wireless network" (my QWest DSL modem
that I connect to via a lynksys wireless card).  The setup software
Backing up other user's account08 Jan 2006 05:46 GMT8
Gang,
I have two user accounts on my Mac (running 10.4.3), my administrator
account, and my wife's regular account (with no password).  We keep
both accounts logged in all the time and have Fast User Switching
host file08 Jan 2006 03:50 GMT4
I am a little out of my element here, but I want to do something on mac
that I have done on PC.
I have changed the HOSTS file on my PC to point a domain to a
particular IP address, and I want duplicate this functionality on a mac
I have installed 10.1.5 OS X on the lifesaver IMAC 333MHZ08 Jan 2006 00:34 GMT3
I am fairly happy with it. I now can run Mozilla. I even got a version
of Limewire that I can run. I am happy with the OS. I have a copy of
office that I need to install to make my iMac complete. The
requirements say 10.2 or later. I need to find a download of 10.2. I am
Tiger Partial success -- OS 9.1 incompatible with classic?07 Jan 2006 23:33 GMT3
OK -- with fear and trembling I installed Tiger on my 128 meg G4, which
I've never upgraded from 9.1.  It went fine and booted up OK. (I'm
posting from Safari using it.)    I tried starting classic.  It
suggested I should upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2, but would let me proceed.
File extension for utf-8 text07 Jan 2006 23:24 GMT5
What is the file extension for utf-8 encoded text file ?
I try .text, .text, .txt but TextEdit open the file in plain text.
TextEdit can read the utf-8 file but only with the help
of the Plain Text Encoding popup.
Single User Mode07 Jan 2006 21:08 GMT6
I've been using AppleJack for system maintenance; it's a great, free
tool. To use it, you have to boot into single user mode and run it.
Here's my question: When AppleJack is running, it displays pages and
pages of output. I'd like to go back and review some of that output,
Oh, but one more voice to the Help Viewer complaints...07 Jan 2006 20:02 GMT3
The only fly in the ointment about my Tiger install on my G4 is that
the Help Viewer really is busted out of the box.   I'd noticed it had
stopped working well (or at all) on my wife's machine (mini) and had
read up all I could find about it.  On her machine I tried all the
imac g5 07 Jan 2006 19:35 GMT3
OK,  I'm checking into buying a new IMAC G5.
I currently have a powerbook G4 with a 12 inch screen.
I'm a Graphic Designer, so I obviously need to upgrade my display.
I'm also looking to upgrade my hard disk space.  My Powerbook only has 80Gigs.
Restoring from a "sparseimage" file, using Carbon Copy Cloner or    Disk Utility 07 Jan 2006 17:56 GMT1
I've been running myself ragged lately in backing up my son's
Powerbook, replacing the drive and getting the new one to be
"recognizable" so as to be initialized/formatted. I've finally got it
up and running and have installed the OS 10.3 system again from the
Almost duplicate filenames [Case (in)sensitivity problems]07 Jan 2006 17:28 GMT4
I have 20-some gigs of around 6500 files and folders that I need to move from a
Mini running 10.4 to an iBook running 10.3, and I've run into an interesting
problem...
10.4 is case-sensitive and 10.3 is only case preserving.  This means that I
iBook clamshell upgrades07 Jan 2006 15:48 GMT1
A co-worker was planning on getting a new G4 iBook, however, her
boyfriend surprised her with a ring for Christmas. Now she has to save
her bucks for bigger plans and is thinking of upgrading her tangerine
book.
