Classic installation / version?16 Jan 2006 10:24 GMT2
I don't yet have Classic on this machine (PowerBook G4 / OSX 10.3.9) and
now want to install it so that I can use some old CD ROM museum guides.
On my last machine I had Classic installed but IIRC it was 9.2.1.  Is
there any way to install Classic as 9.2.2?  I have install discs for

I just bought a brand new IMAC G5 -- Tiger 10.4. I downloaded Firefox
into a user account, put it on the dock and it dissappers -- does it
every time I log out. Mail -- the program that comes with the MAC
disappears from the dock too. I have to reinstall firefox when I log
How noisy are iMac's ?16 Jan 2006 10:01 GMT4
Considering getting an intel iMac - one of things that really concerns
me is noise....since no-one has any experience of these new machines,
can anyone comment on what the noise levels are like on the old iMac's
compared to say a bog-standard PC (Dell 3100, for example).
Macworld keynote16 Jan 2006 08:53 GMT1
I went to the apple site in order to watch the Macworld keynote.  When
I click on it I get this message:  Couldn't open the file
"blahblahblah" because a bad public movie atom was found in the movie.
What's up with that?  I'm using OS 9.2.2 ......has it something to do
Bozo Engineering -- iPod Cases [OT]16 Jan 2006 08:42 GMT1
I recently became the owner of an iPod nano. In looking for a carrying case
which could be hung around my neck I noted that not one of those I looked at
would position the nano so that the screen could be read by me, that is, so
that the nano would be positioned in the case with ...
Couple of links explaining why FW 800 does not exist on Mactel16 Jan 2006 06:34 GMT6
Intel does not exist in member list of IEEE 1394
http://www.1394ta.org/About/Members/index.htm#i
Intel is a founding member of USB which is (still) a joke in
professional World.
Move to Windows (not!)16 Jan 2006 06:00 GMT1
No, I'm not really planning on moving to Windows... but does anyone have
any suggestions on how to export Apple Mail messages to a Windows
platform-- perhaps to Mozilla Thunderbird?

Spotlight returns too much junk16 Jan 2006 05:27 GMT8
I am usually searching for a file with a specific string in the name.
Spotlight insists on telling me the zillions of files that have that
string somehere in the contents too.
Is there any way I can get SpotLight/Tiger to just give me files whose
spotty airport connectivity (tiger/ibook G3/600)16 Jan 2006 04:40 GMT1
I've been living with this annoyance for some time, and before I either
fork over $100 for a new airport card (if I can find one) or try to
find a USB adapter that has the Ralink chipset, I'd like to run this by
you folks.
Can't Get Fax Button  HELP16 Jan 2006 03:13 GMT2
I just installed OS 10.4.  I hooked up my printer and tried to set up
the fax preferences.  I pen a word document and then go to the file menu
and go to print ...
I understand that what I should see on the bottom of the print screen
Is it just a "design" change on www site or?16 Jan 2006 01:39 GMT2
OK, 2 links again. One from Archive of site. Just spotted so it may
have changed long time ago but I am sure not BEFORE Mactel announcement
on WWDC.

Canon S750 is not responding16 Jan 2006 00:43 GMT1
I was given a Canon S750 ink jet printer. Powering it on everything
looks fine, the LED goes into steady green mode. Connecting it to a Mac
(10.4.4) via USB cable has it correctly recognized by both "about this
Mac" as well as by printer setup.
archive.org is evil :)15 Jan 2006 23:54 GMT7
I wondered if there were "4x fast", "3x fast" allegations before so I
checked archive.org pages of times Apple was loving PowerPC.
"So how does the G4 with its Velocity Engine stack up against Intel’s
brand-new Pentium III processor?

OSX: Separate retail versions for PPC and Intel?15 Jan 2006 21:25 GMT17
There is an article on Macfixit which says that you can't use a PowerPC
disc containing OS X to boot an Intel Mac, and vice versa. Does this
mean that retail, boxed versions of OSX must be sold in separate PPC
and Intel versions?
