How to recover files after formatting disk by mistake?18 Jan 2006 22:39 GMT2
I had for some time problems with the internal SATA hard drive in my
Powermac G5, so I was temporarily running off my backup, an external
drive.  Trying to fix the internal drive, I booted in single-user mode
and applied /sbin/newfs_hfs to it.  Or so I thought.  Soon enough it

we downloaded and installed LocalTalk Bridge 2.1. This works fine ...

Does the Migration Assistant utility create new user accounts?18 Jan 2006 19:26 GMT2
Hi. Does the Migration Assistant utility actually create new user
accounts for you?  Or does it presume they have been created already,
and just handles the copying over of files? Thanks.
If it DOES create new user accounts, does it keep the UIDs in sync?

OK, classic dead or alive?18 Jan 2006 17:17 GMT66
Someone pointed out to me that Apple announced two new Intel-based
Mac's at Macworld today -- a new iMac and MacBook (notebook).   Does
anyone know if anything at all was said about Classic?  (The "press"
reports I could find on the net don't say anything one way or the
launchd and a change in system behavior18 Jan 2006 14:19 GMT2
I've noticed a new and NOT WANTED behavior on my system.  Though I'm not
certain, I think this started when I got Tiger. i.e. 10.4 .
I have a Duel 1.25 GHz 1.75 GB ram running Tiger.  As you can see, I
have a lot of RAM.  I wanted it that way because I usually have a few

Safari and Title Bar?18 Jan 2006 13:09 GMT4
I downloaded some files using Safari and saved them as Web Archive files.
When I reopened them, the title bar did not display the file name I had
chosen. Instead, it was a file name originally suggested by the site.
Suppose I just want to have the data portion of the downloaded file ...

"Localised string not found"  - Huh?18 Jan 2006 12:42 GMT12
I've recently (*think* it's only started recently) been getting lots of
these messages using Safari or Netscape.
The problem, if that's what it is, doesn't seem to affect the web pages'
appearance or performance in any way.
