iBook startup problems in Baghdad24 Oct 2005 00:16 GMT4
I am a journalist in Baghdad desperately trying to fix one of our
translator's iBook. It wasn't starting up properly and Apple, bless
their hearts, shipped me install CD's. 4 Mac OSX Tiger discs (the first
one labelled CPU Drop In Disc 1, the others install disc 2-4) 1 iBook
Mystery Disk Access?23 Oct 2005 20:53 GMT6
My hard drive has been very active for most of the last hour. I've been
in the web browser most of that time. Checking Activity Monitor, the
top item is WindowServer, with 35% - 50% of the CPU.
Is there a way to find out what app is doing so much disk access?
Two Strange Problems23 Oct 2005 18:51 GMT3
Hi, was wondering if anyone has seen this and knows of a solution to
either of these problems. I haven't found any hints so far.

windows to folders, trash, etc. The only escape seems to be popping my

I've played with them before and still see them as the most powerful
PDA.  However they were bulky.
My question is how to modern Macs running OSX Tiger sync with them?  Was

No Help in Safari Help?23 Oct 2005 01:49 GMT2
When I go to Safari (2.0.1) Help I get nothing but the search screen
but nothing will come up.  Offline/online, same thing.  Trying to look
for help with attachments in web based mail systems, which is the real
problem.  Any leads would help, thanks.
OK, so you get an iMac....... Then what?22 Oct 2005 23:29 GMT70
I just bought an old iMac Tangerine on ebay.
I haven't received it yet but I'm already making plans to get it
connected to my home network.
I don't plan on using it for any fancy graphics work, mostly because I
Which SoundSticks speakers are left and right?22 Oct 2005 22:36 GMT4

Future of 64 bits22 Oct 2005 21:26 GMT21
If I have this right, 64-bit processing on the Mac may conclude with
the G5 as we move in to 32-bit Intel-land next year.
What does this mean to me vis-a-vis the programs I am currently using,
which include video and audio editing software.  Is anything that is
Sound Balance often on the left instead of centered22 Oct 2005 20:29 GMT1
Often I notice that the sound is kind of thin.  I open the System Prefs
-> Sound, and again, the Balance slider is on the left, instead of the
center position.
I never slide it to the left intentionally.  It must be a keyboard
10.2 and 10.3 user access rights.22 Oct 2005 16:51 GMT1
I need to allow users using 10.2 and 10.3 access to a digital camera when it
is plugged into the USB port.  If I start up iPhoto and go to import it says
there is no camera selected.  It works fine for a user with admin rights.
So, what do I have to allow the users acces to so ...
"No Camera Attached"22 Oct 2005 16:17 GMT1
I was wondering if anyone can help me out?  I am trying to import video
from a Canon Optura xi to my iBook G4 using iMovie4.  When I connect
the firewire cables, turn the Canon to VCR mode, and start iMovie,
iMovie shows a blue screen and "No Camera Attached."  The Canon has "DV

Changing file names with a single click22 Oct 2005 04:35 GMT16
I upgraded to 10.4 the other day, and I can no longer click on the name
portion of an icon and have it become editable. I have to click on the
icon, then click on the name field, resulting in opening the file if I
do it too quickly or nothing happening if I wait too long.
