dvd burner / combo drive compatibility24 Oct 2005 21:07 GMT1
I own an eMac 1GHz system that came with a combo drive.  I just ordered
a Pioneer DVR-110 dvd burner online for upgrading purposes.  I've heard
that they install in macs no problem?  Has anyone had any experience
with this?
Mini - 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapters available in North America24 Oct 2005 19:45 GMT2
Anyone know if they're available?  Or a 2.5" gender changer?
I've been using Adam's one and its working great. But I can't seem to
run an optical drive off the same cable.  I've tried Cable Select as
well as Master and Slave but if the optical drive is in there, the Mini
What are the symptoms of incorrect permissions?24 Oct 2005 18:23 GMT9
Whenever I use Disk Utility it finds permissions to correct on my drive,
but I never notice any improvement. What are the symptoms of incorrect
permissions? What fate is DU saving me from?

First here is the environment:  Windows SBS 2003 not running ISA with
AFP and SMB shares enabled.  Domain enabled and working properly as a
.local internal DNS.  10-15 OS X clients running the active directory

I'm running a G-4 mirror front on Sys 10.3.8 and 9.2.2. I can print in
10.3.8 and 9.2.2 but not in Classic. The CX3200 doesn't show in the
Chooser. Did I miss something?

change default web browser: Mozilla instead of Safari24 Oct 2005 14:53 GMT4
how may I tell MacOSX 10.3.9 to use a different web browser than Safari?
When I cmd-click on a URL in Apple Mail, it's always Safari which is opened.
It this a common OSX behavior (since I don't find a global system
preference here) or Mail only?
Copying required CD to HD?24 Oct 2005 12:14 GMT2
National Geographic's TOPO!Mac software (at least, the old version I
have from OS 9 days), while it stores certain user-generated mapping
data like waypoints and tracks on your HD, requires that the original CD
containing the basic map data be in the drive when you run it.
ESC key not working24 Oct 2005 05:04 GMT5
Silly question -- I am sure thsi is something that I have accidentally
done but can't figure out how to get it back: ESC is not working under
my profile on my iMac.  It just is not responding in almost all (except
of Option-Command-Escape sequence).  Works perfectly fine under other

Rendezvous firewall problem, 10.3.9 ?24 Oct 2005 04:26 GMT2
I use the firewall rule

thinking that I have nothing to fear from the other machines
in my house.  (Please, let's not debate whether I have
airport_hookupd24 Oct 2005 02:22 GMT6
The question has been asked, how can we cause the wireless connection to
start before someone logs in.  I've poked around a bit and discovered
that there are two initialization directories, "/etc/mach_init.d" and
"/etc/mach_init_per_user.d".  The per_user directory contains

15 inch Apple PowerBook--an awesome, elegant machine!
I am selling this machine only 4 weeks old in perfect condition. I have
already ordered another PowerMac G5 and is the only reason I am selling
this at a $900 loss but I need to sell it to offset the cost of this G5.
