Is xtools/xcode not free in 10.4?26 Oct 2005 05:31 GMT6
I am a little confused, please bear with me. While browsing the
Applications directory, I noticed and double-clicked xtools.app.
The resulting window told me I have a "temporary license" valid until
some date. It asks for some license code. I don't recall downloading
Really REALLY stupid mighty mouse / scroll-wheel problem.26 Oct 2005 04:26 GMT4
It scrolls left.
It scrolls right.
It scrolls up.
But ... it doesn't scroll down ... !?
A custom word delimiter character class for Mac OS X Terminal26 Oct 2005 02:50 GMT4
I love selecting long file paths in a console window by double-clicking
them. At work, with Linux, I get the whole path. In the Mac OS X
Terminal app, the forward slash (/) acts as a word delimiter, so I only
get a single file or directory name. Does anyone know how to customize
Which commercial demo programs are included with Tiger?26 Oct 2005 02:21 GMT2
My confusion about xtools---I thought it had something to do with xcode
and was confused by its "temporary license"---makes me wonder:
Which commercial demos come included with Tiger? I was going by the
naive idea that everything in /Applications was Apple software that
Which Usenet newsreader?25 Oct 2005 23:27 GMT51
Which Usenet newsreader do you use?
I'm currently using a vaporware called Thoth and so far it is still the
best I can find. MT Newswatcher is a little long in the tooth.  Unison
looked interesting but somewhat bloated and AFAIK doesn't Extract
G5 and Netgear RP614 router25 Oct 2005 23:18 GMT5
I am trying to help a friend (a computer neophyte) hook up a Netgear
RP614 router to her G5. The instructions say to put in the disk from
the router and for non-windows operating systems, navigate to the
index.htm file and open it. But when I try, all I get is a browser
Using Mini Mac with Wacom bluetooth tablet instead of a keyboard and mouse25 Oct 2005 21:46 GMT2
I am a PC user looking to switch to a Mac Mini. I just bought a Wacom
bluetooth tablet for use with my PC (for Photoshop) with some handwriting
software. My PC can be started without the keyboard or mouse connected and I
can use the tablet as my only input device. Can this be ...
What Fonts Really Work in OS X?25 Oct 2005 20:27 GMT1
In Mac OS 10.4.x at least, virtually no older fonts, either TrueType or
PostScript, show in the Font Book application as having "typographical
features", and indeed, even the most common ligatures which were
formerly available seem to be lost. They also seem nonresponsive to

Get info question/Mac OS X Tiger25 Oct 2005 05:13 GMT5
Just bought myself a new G5 and it's got Tiger. I've been using Panther
on my G4 laptop, but my desktop was a G3 with OS 9.
The answer may be painfully obvious and I'm just missing it, but where,
when you do a "Get Info" on a folder, does it list the number of items

Old scanner died, recommendations for new one?25 Oct 2005 02:57 GMT21
My old SCSI Umax scanner just died, which was welcomed, since I upgraded
my computer from my old 8600 to a Mac Mini on 10.4.2. I only scan
documents occasionally.. It's a convenience that I like to have around
for those times when nothing else will quite do.
File migration to new computer24 Oct 2005 23:41 GMT2
Now that they've released what will most likely be the last PPC
Powerbooks, it's time for me to upgrade.  (I'm going to need at least
one Classic program for the foreseeable future, so I don't want to be an
early MacIntel adopter.)  I currently have a 4-year-old TiBook, running
Disappearing menu items24 Oct 2005 22:28 GMT6
