Long-time Unix user, but recent OSX convert.  I'm confused about
permissions on a volume on a firewire drive.  I want it accessible to
my account but not others.  In a terminal, an ls -l on
/Volumes/vol_name showed that my account (which is an administrator)

After the installation of MAC OS X (PUMA - version 10) when I start the
system, I heard tha mac sound and I get this message to the upper left

just purchased a G5. I would like to dedicate my G4 to the task of

My employer recently installed an iMac G5 in my office to replace my old IBM
Aptiva.  I have a PowerBook of my own.  They connect to our campus backbone
through a router (LinkSYS).
What is the performance difference between mounting HDs using afp vs. smb

My iBook's receipts folder (/Library/Receipts) is getting awfully large

We're attempting to set up a 400MHz G4 Sawtooth Tower, 448MB RAM with an
80GB drive, as a OSX Server (Panther), for light duties in a small
school.
Anyone attempted a similar exercise? Any tips or warnings?

Using 10.4.2 with the latest Toast.  My system freezes, Force Quit
doesn't work, and the system didn't even shut down or restart.  Also
the DVD tray wouldn't open - even when pushing the Eject button on it.
