Installation of a software (Cubase) required BSD subsystem. I grabbed it off an old CD (10.1 or 10.2). At first, everything seemed to have installed ok, no restart was required, and Cubase installed just fine. But after a reboot, OSX will only show the screen background, the dock,

| Safari gets bigger and bigger | 07 Sep 2005 05:14 GMT | 5 |
Watching Safari in Activity Monitor, I notice the longer it runs the bigger it gets. Is this "normal", in that it is caching sites or something, or is it a memory leak? Bob B.

| Classic can't find OS 9 | 07 Sep 2005 05:12 GMT | 14 |
Tried to run a Classic program. "Classic cannot find a System Folder on the startup disk" Well, why does it have to be on the startup disk partition? It used to work with all the OS 9 stuff in another partition.

| OSX on PC - which hardware? | 07 Sep 2005 04:12 GMT | 4 |
Any word on what type of hardware the PC OSX will use? I'm guessing it will not be standard Pentium/Athlon hardware but will continue to be proprietary. You won't be able to install Windows & OSX on the same machine right?

| Apple or third-party protection vs. Mac's password system | 07 Sep 2005 03:58 GMT | 1 |
Since I carry my PowerBook just about everywhere I go, I am considering a third-party tool (such as Knox from https://www.knoxformac.com/) or Apple's own FileVault (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/filevault/) to protect personal files.

I would like to use the iDVD "Reveal" theme (this is the one with the possible 5 images that sweep in and out of view) with some images that have a "transparent" color so that the background image is visible. I have tried a .GIF image which had a transparent mask but this did not

Hiya! I have a PowerPC G4 (3.3.) iMac and my sound sometimes (getting a little more frequent) sometimes doesn't work. The speakers aren't the problem either - I have tried disconnecting them to see if the regular internal sound system will work and it doesn't. Any ideas (I

| Bootstrapping an LC475 | 06 Sep 2005 21:17 GMT | 11 |
I've come into the posession of an old LC475. This is a 1993-vintage machine. It comes with MacOS 7.6.1. Fortunately, I got the machine complete, with CD, external CD-ROM, and a whopping 160MB hard drive. I want to install a bigger (i.e. non-Apple) hard drive. I've gathered
