New Timbuktu version 8.5.1 available for Windows XP (plus minor blogging)09 Sep 2005 07:42 GMT20
So why am I mentioning this in Mac NGs?
Because the cheap short-sighted PC users do not use Timbuktu  anyhow,
only enlightened Mac users run TB2.
Why am I including blogging about speech-to-text technology?
I'm a refugee from windows09 Sep 2005 07:14 GMT18
I've just taken delivery of a new G5 iMac.  It's sitting on my desk, quite
beautiful, slim and very attractive.  Rather like Britney Spears!
It took all  of 2 minutes to set up and connect to the Internet, I am very
impressed.  And to be honest, "I'm in love".

New 200GB Maxtor only formats to 120GB?09 Sep 2005 03:20 GMT2
Some nonsense in the documentation (all Windows-related) about how one
cannot have a drive larger than 137GB without an Ultra ATA/133 PCI
card. I'm assuming that does not pertain to Macs...
I bought the 200GB Maxtor from Staples and tried to put it into a
Are "Caches" directories safe to delete?09 Sep 2005 02:18 GMT5
Is it safe to delete the contents of my system's Caches directories?
I was thinking of logging into the console and doing this, without the

OSX print using OS9 USB printer?08 Sep 2005 21:39 GMT2
I've tried to get my OSX 10.4.2 system to print using my OS 9.1
USB mounted Brother printer.  I turned on USB Print Sharing on my OS 9.1
box, but the printer just never shows up to be added on my OS X 10.4.2
machine.  The help system on Tiger has a section on how to get an OS 9
Typeset -- Fantastic Software -- Non-Existant Support08 Sep 2005 20:57 GMT4
I am a licensed user of Typeset which was purchased for $19 from Drew Hamlin
<http://www.drewhamlin.com/?page=Software>
several months ago. Typeset is potentially an excellent application and one
well worth having. In my case, after installation, Typset would launch and
Stop/start daemon on Tiger08 Sep 2005 18:27 GMT3
Is someone know how we should proceed for stopping/restarting any
daemon on Tiger, for instance  cups? (without rebooting of course)
I'm looking for  the equivalence of: /etc/init.d/cups stop on

In the last day or so, my Finder has started to unexpectedly quit every
2 minutes or so (Powerbook G4 800Mhz Titanium  OS X.4.2).
When it happens, all my icons on the desktop disappear and then
reappear, any windows on the desktop which were now open are now closed
Virtual PC 7 Question...08 Sep 2005 02:58 GMT4
Hi! This is my first time posting to this group, and I hope I'm not
violating any  group policies.  A friend of mine has encountered a
problem during a Linux install via Virtual PC 7, and I'm hoping that
someone here would be able to help.  Thanks in advance for your time

Trouble with a shared printer08 Sep 2005 02:19 GMT2
We have one particular G5 running 10.3.9 that is unable to print to a
shared Canon i9900 on our network. The problem is not specific to a
single user on that G5.
The shared printer shows up in Printer Setup Utility, and the G5 is
Multiple copies08 Sep 2005 02:10 GMT1
Suddenly I'm unable to print multiple copies. I'm using OS 10.3.9, Word X
and HP psc 1610. The box for putting the number just won't change. I need
thirty copies of a document with graphics, and I sure hate to do it one at a
time. Any ideas? Thanks.
