| Local Mac name replaces IP address in web queries | 18 Apr 2006 20:13 GMT | 2 |
I have a setup with a MacMini, along with other computers, behind a SpeedTouch DSL modem. On the Mac Mini the apache web server is enabled, and on the SpeedTouch the NAPT entries forward the HTTP request correctly to the internal IP address of the Mac Mini.

| Airport Extreme plus Windows | 16 Apr 2006 02:22 GMT | 4 |
I've Googled this, both plain search and newgroups, but nothing seems to have a definitive answer. A friend of mine has an Airport Extreme base station and two Macs, a Mini and a Powerbook G4. Both work just fine with it and he's very pleased. But now his brother is visiting ...

| Regional dvd settings question | 15 Apr 2006 15:16 GMT | 7 |
I'm only allowed to change this five times? I've got dvd's from the UK and N/A which means this isn't going to work very long. Is there a way around this to continue changing the setting without having a default fifth change being permanent?

| RealPlayer stopped working | 15 Apr 2006 05:01 GMT | 3 |
Today, RealPlayer 10 always gives an error message about "Can't open the audio device. Maybe some other application has it." I didn't find anything on their web site about it, and all I could find on Google was stuff about this error on Linux and Windows.

| Need Global Village Software | 13 Apr 2006 14:13 GMT | 3 |
I bought a GV modem for my mother and my old B&W G3. This was an EBay purchase, and the modem was not delivered with the install CD and manual. So far, the seller has been unresponsive. This is a model that was probably the last generation to connect via

| Remote Access connects at unknown rate. Why? | 10 Apr 2006 20:01 GMT | 2 |
My G4/450 running OS 9.2.2 connects to the 'net via a 56K modem (the one that ships with the system). I use the Apple Internal 56K Modem v.90 script (modified version to simplify the init string), and Remote Access is my dialer. When I connect, it says "Connecting at an unknown ...

After upgrading to 10.4.6 when my G4 desktop (and I thing G4 powerbook, too) goes to sleep, on waking up there is no DNS access. I can ping anything using the TCP/IP address but not using names. I had a connection problems after 10.4.4 upgrade that were eventually

| Thoth Search Capabilities Question | 09 Apr 2006 15:45 GMT | 5 |
I've found that Thoth, when searching newsgroups, is no longer nearly as reliable as I remember it being in the past... I don't know, but I don't think the change was tied to any particular system update I'm currently using OS 10.3.9 on a G4.

| switching between dialup and dsl | 04 Apr 2006 16:16 GMT | 2 |
I have dialup at home. Sometimes I spend a week taking care of a farm with Bellsouth DSL. I'd take an external HD to use as a startup disk on their Mac. The Bellsouth software made unspecified changes, and it didn't seem possible to switch back and forth under OS 9. Instead, ...

| A dilemma | 01 Apr 2006 16:40 GMT | 3 |
This iMac running OS-X is still a usable machine and well, that's the problem. Is it worth going back to Classic for now until my new one arrives, or should the past be forgotten? Honestly, I need some help on this because I know that the new systems don't come with that blast ...
